there are piles of spec scripts on the subject its not a matter of creating one from scratch unless chris nolan wants to do that..otherwise its just a matter of picking a good story or a good writer who can bang out a great tale.

WTF??? He and his brother are gonna write the script as usual, if they remain inviolved. It's totally Nolan's vision. He has complete control (especially now). No one's interested in someone else's "spec scripts."

thats funny since Batman Begins had two villains (ras al ghul and scarecrow) and the Dark Knight had two villains (joker and two face).

You keep treating the films as a single entity. As I said earlier, you have no idea where the third film will go. It may be a compete departure. Nolan is nothing if not adventurous and unpredictable.

Ledger didn't own the joker (despite what fanboys believe) he did a great take but nolan clearly left room for the character to return at some point rather kill him off like burton did.

Again, Nolan didn't know his actor was gonna die, so he left his options open. Now that Ledger is dead, the "JOKER" might as well be too.

chris nolans filmography suggests that hes eclectic but the tone and look of this series so far is clearly uniform..if nolan went away from that uniformity to top the last film it would be a mistake.

Well, he 's gonna have to do something fresh, because he won't be lucky enough to have an attractive actor die in his physical prime (and at his performing peak) on the next one. The first film wasn't exactly a major blockbuster. It underperformed at $205M. Bale is a big ZERO at the box-office all by himself.

riiiight...because hollywood NEVER beats a dead horse

superhero burnout?? Iron Man (2008)
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Thor (2010)
Captain America (2011)
Avengers (2011)

and thats just from Marvel...as long as money can be made hollywood will keep churning them out..

That's exactly my point. By 2012 half of those films will likely be regarded as box-office clunkers (like the new Hulk). Audiences will tire of this shit by 2009, though fanboys might not. Porn fans never tire of porn, but general audiences get bored real fast.

This franchise has made a ton of money and they're only on the third movie. It is customary for viable Superhero franchises to have four installments.

Actually, the first film was an underformer (at $205M on a $150M budget). Lots of strange circumstances made the second one a giant sensation (not the least of which was unexpected "teen girl worship"). Future hits in the series are far from guaranteed if things go back to normal.

(Look what happened to Mission: Impossible after the first two blockbusters. A solid 3rd film, which grossed around $135-150M, was deemed a bust, after Tom Cruise lost favor with the public.)

I agree. Nolan has already said that Heath is his only Joker. So don't look for another actor to pick up the mantle.

As Blunt said the Joker window was left open because his actor was still very much alive when the movie finish filming.

Don't expect to see another Joker as long as Chris is behind the lens and is holding the pen. The reason the series has been a success because it's his vision.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He even looks a little like Heath, but only after the next film.

If its some DK Returns future film with a 50 year old Batman, I would go with Daniel Day Lewis
You guys keep forgetting that movie makeup can take decades off of a person's face. Daniel Day-Lewis could play a young Joker like Ledger did too. But of that list in the poll Johnny Depp wins hands-down.

Yeah the Joker delivered his philosophy made his statement and made his play as far as a movie is concerned. There is no need for him to return especially in such a "starring" capacity. Best move would be to move on to another villain with yet another outlook/approach.

I vote write in for this guy

Stuart Townsend. Other than that I think that guy Crispin Glover would be perfect

fine its nolans baby (for now)...don't think he's not being pressured and coaxed into penning a third one..and he will.

the movies ARE a single entity as far as the studio is concerned..its one in a money making FRANCHISE thats hit more than it missed.

again Nolan doesn't OWN the characters..hes the golden boy of the moment but that doesn't mean the Joker won't return in less than 20 years in fact i'm willing to bet they (the studio the people who do OWN the characters) will bring him back long before then. I wouldn't suggest bringing back the joker for the next flick or the one after that...but there is NO REASON to wait another 20 YEARS or retire the character completely either..no matter how good ledger was.. he died..let someone else take a shot at it..

205 million in the BO..thats not counting DVD sales, PPV and cable..the movie will make a profit. And the batman stories were always better with a good villain. It doesn't matter whos in the cowl and cape batman by himself was always kinda boring period..once you get past the reason why he became a vigilante its just all angst and anger..without the villains theres not much to batman himself.

yep and like porn even when the general audience gets bored the industry STILL makes billions off the product..As long as CGI keeps getting better and at least a FEW of those films hit..superhero flicks aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

John Lithgow gets my write in because he is the one actor who can keep the edge that Ledger created IMHOP. Dexter, Denzel, and Dark Knight are all compatible adversaries for this fine actor. Not only that, I ran across one of the recent Batman graphic novels that showed a view of Joker that looked just like Lithgow.
I hope he gets drafted into the role.
