And stop with the no one can do it after Heath Ledger whining... even if he hadn't died eventually (assuming the franchise is ongoing) SOMEONE else would have to play the Joker...

So who could do it?

Johnny Depp would be the best since he has the skills and looks the most reminescent of Heath.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He even looks a little like Heath, but only after the next film.

If its some DK Returns future film with a 50 year old Batman, I would go with Daniel Day Lewis

Nobody IMO. Move on to another villian.

Bane
Killer Croc
Penguin
Catwoman
Clayface
Riddler

i'm not talking about for the NEXT movie...I'm talking about EVENTUALLY..on down the line..
1. the joker didn't die in this movie so they intend to bring him back at some point..

2. Joker is arguably batmans biggest nemesis so he HAS to come back at some point.

so who could play him when he returns in the FUTURE..

I like Johnny Depp. If he can combine the Charlie and Chocolate Factory with Sweeney Todd. You may get a good Joker. :D

the way the Joker character has evolved over the years its apparent that there isn't a bottom to the character...as long as the core elements are there.. pasty white skin, green hair, frenetic air of scatterbrainness, penchant for extreme violence..ANYONE can play the role..

Johnny Depp is an obvious choice, he does weird, crazy ass characters on a regular basis. He also has the acting chops to bring a new dimension to the character.

Malkovitch would be a good choice because he's just a damn good actor who could bring out the cold, psychopathic side of Joker. I don't know how well he would do on the manic side though.

I couldn't see an unknown taking this role. After Nicholson and Ledger, the Joker is now a choice role in Hollywood. Chris Nolan won't let that go out to just some knucklehead off the street.

i agree...DEPP looks like he can pull it off...and he is an actor that can get even more ppl in the seats beacause of his roles in the past.....also ppl have said that Depp is a lil' off in the head....

but i rather see a new villian...me being a huge BATMAN fan (even b4 Dark Knight)

i want to see Clayface or BANE....those are great stories....JOKER, Ra Al Ghul and 2FACE were IMO BATMAN's biggest nemesis...and catwoman and Penguin were done B4....

i want a BANE or CLAYFACE....

if they do another JOKER we need a sexy crazy Harley Quinn...

A choice role? I disagree. As good of a job as Heath did? Ain't no body fuckin' with that role any time soon. Too much to live up too. I mean we're talking Oscar's already lol. You see it took 18 years for someone to fuck with it after Jack did it. Good luck though to whoever does decide to take that role.

If we are talking down the line, I agree that an unknown shouldn't be cast. I do think that someone can do the role after Heath, but they would have to really reinvent it again to do the role justice. I don't know if I would cast any of the choices, they are all good actors, but I would like to see someone different.

How about James Franco? I could see him bugging out as the Joker.

The writers and directors already know they cannot cast another joker for the Dark Knight series so I think you should X that thought out! They are gonna work on some other villians.

CLAYFACE would be dope, but thats more fx than nolan would probably want.

i agree...when he said no computer animation was used on the making i was amazed....he really does not like it.....(if i'm wrong correct me)

but i agree....tho i like Riddler i can't take a whole movie with him as the sole villian...Jim Carey owned that role in "Batman Forever"...which was aight....

BANE is a good idea tho.....but like s/o said Joker has alot to do with other villians....

So far these films have maintained a certain level of darkness almost noir quality to them in tone and look.

The joker was portrayed more like a terrorist than a crazy killer whose catch was a punchline at the end of a crime. In that regard (in post 911) he was more relatable to us than any other Joker portrayal...

Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow was treated in a similar fashion...just realistic enough to accept and get into the story.

Alot of the Batmans other villians don't meet up with that kind of treatment (unless you just want the penquin in name only and portrayed in a different fashion)..the same with clayface and madhatter killer croc etc..

The riddler can be done in a compelling way BUT the writing has to be good..I mean Silence Of The Lambs in Gotham type of way..Where E Nigma gives just enough hints to make Batman and GCPD run around the city on wild goose chases and people DIE..

IF (and i oppose the 2 villains for every movie thing but..) IF you wanted to have another villain then you could stick Catwoman in as a distraction/love interest..I'd give her a MINOR role..more like a jewel thief nuisance to Batman rather than a major player.. for example in one scene while hes hunting down a clue from the Riddler he spots Catwoman doing some shit and hesitates for a second then decides shes not important at the moment and continues on with the major crime investigation.

If you don't continue the dark tone and look then THIS Batman will just become like the other one...silly and overwrought.

Another example..Mr Freeze could be called that because hes a "cold motherfucker" with no remorse or his signature is the police keep finding frozen bodies..but otherwise he's a normal looking man.

Penguin could be just a nickname like they do in the mob.. vincent "the chin" gigante.. and he runs an even more ruthless organized crime ring..as opposed to a penguin looking dude with a goofy umbrella.. but you get the point.

Kind of like the way he was re-done on the Batman cartoon.

He's more like a goth. I can see Depp playing this role. (or Antonio Banderias.)

excellent points....but how would you do Mr. freeze...some characters will be difficult to create w/o straying away from the reality and darkess of the movie....Freeze gun...and signature helmet....i don't know fam....

Cat woman i agree with how you feel....and again great point...RIDDLER will need some good ass writers....cuz his chracter is IMO difficult to pull off.....Jim owned his chracter tho....

Penquin good idea....

Madhatter nah 2 complex....Killer croc.. maybe but can't be a sole villian...the ventriliquist & scarface (sp?)...has to be a damn good story....Poison Ivy..nah...

what about Robin a a sidekick...yay or nah?

they should show him in the next movie as a adopted kid...no crime fighting....
