I don't live in a "Black World". I live in "The World". In short, I'm not separating people out based on color or dehumanizing people based on the same. I don't like it when it's done to me so I'm not doing it. Besides this thread is really about Pop Culture and each person's life experience. Therefore your statement is invalid. Who are you to say what any black person should be concerned with? Barney Fife of the Soul Patrol?
This was just too obvious. When you insensitively pulled Elvis, Lennon and the Merkel Kid out your ass, it was very obvious you didn't live in a black world. The thread was addressing the death of a black sports figure, who was loved by millions.... Yeah lets call it obvious that entry was totally disrespectful.

When Pac died I was sad but shit was like a movie....didnt seem real to me. Plus 7 Day Theory dropped right after that. Made the music better sad to say. The Nipsey death upset me for a few days as well. This Kobe shit is just so unexpected that its truly sad. As an adult, you think more about family and loved ones along with yourself vs when you are young. All this being said, 911 was most shocking.

Social media changed everything. Could u imagine social media and all the smart phones when 911 happened? There would have been a million more videos of it. Hell, people would have prolly been live streaming their own deaths from the towers. Shit would have been insane.

No mention of Left Eye?

I remember exactly where I was on most of the events people listed here.

- Was in class when the space shuttle exploded. Our teacher rolled in a TV to watch the news coverage. I remember her bawling her eyes out.
- I can't remember exactly where I was when both Tupac and Biggie died, but I remember both times I was hanging with my best fired.
- Was dropping off an ex-gf at her house when her mom came out to my car was like, "Y'all heard about Aaliyah?"
- At home when I heard about MJ.
- At work when I heard about Prince. (Prince hit me harder than MJ)
- At work listening to the radio when the report about a plane crashing into the WTC came on. The whole building just stop working as time went on. There was a a coworker who was hysterically crying because her father worked in the financial district (not in the tower though). She was glued to the phone but could not get through because all the lines to NY were jammed.
- OJ being charged with murder.
- OJ being found not guilty- Was at work and me and another black coworker were in the back when the verdict was read. The whole room was quiet in shock and me and him walked away then silently shook hands.
- Obama 2008 did not shock me as much. I knew of him before he announced his candidacy for president. Then I saw him in person on the campaign trail. The more time went on the more confident I grew in believing he could pull it off. Watched the election at a banquet hall in NJ with an ex-gf. Never seen so many black people together feeling so happy and proud.

Shocking...
1. 911 that shit had everyone shook like who is going to be next ,like are they going to be suicide bombers on buses and trains, elevators, malls, sporting events, festivals, concerts I mean in that moment everyone was shook.
2. The space shuttle explosion it was like Innocence Lost.
3. TWA flight 800 I used to work at JFK airport and the thought of one of those things going down, especially a 747 was inconceivable.
4. The Dylan roof Church murders, it happened the first day I was on a 7 day cruise and most people on the ship could not enjoy themselves for the rest of the cruise.
5. Biggie..... Tupac I just expected that shit, but I didn't expect that Biggie would get killed.
6. This shit with Kobe straight out of left field but I have to admit I'm older so I saw MANY celebs die in plane crashes before... Lynyrd Skynyrd, Thurman Munson, Roberto Clemente, John Denver, Randy Rhoads ,even Aaliyah and to a certain extent Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline, Otis Redding and the Bar-Kays, but that was before my time..... But the list is staggering....
7. Nipsey and Mike Jackson, I have to be honest I kind of knew that in nipsey's profession that that could happen and as far as Mike everybody knew he was out there... Now Prince that was a total fucking shock out of left field.

Ok delete this thread. It’s becoming mad stupid now. Now niggas are listing hurricane Katrina and shit. It’s as if niggas are trying to post anything at all. That’s not the theme of this thread for the love of god. How hard is it to answer the specific question posed by the OP? Next we’ll have some nigga talking about the tsunami that killed a bunch of nobodies. Or someone will mention their uncle and shit. That’s not what the OP asked! Jesus I wish niggas could read

The thread said, "Shocking Moments" in your Life. It didn't say "Shocking Black Moments". The only insensitive thing here appears to be your eyes. They clearly didn't see the thread title or perhaps it was your brain that didn't process the visual information. The only disrespect here is yours for common sense.

1. MJ death-I was in Vegas at the Harrahs hotel on casino floor playing craps when I started feeling sick. I cashed out and headed up to my room and layed in the bed with tv on in background. I was in and out of sleep when I heard Wolf Blitzer say Jackson has been rushed to hospital with Cardiac Arrest. It was a shock like I’ve never experienced. When he was declared dead I went down to the casino floor and people were crying hysterically men and women black and white young and old. I’ll never forget that.

2. 9-11-I left a job interview and was meeting some friends at a Subway for lunch. When we got there they had tv on and the plane hit and we all looked at each other and was like that shit was no accident. We all said we going home and getting off streets cause this could be a nationwide attack and Atlanta would be on the list to hit .

3. Barack Obama winning Democratic nomination and Presidency-This was a shock that he could actually win but his actual winning wasn’t a shock cause he was so dominant in his campaigning and actions that it was clear he would beat McCain.

4. Tyson losing to Douglas-This was the most unexpected outcome in Sports History surpassing US beating Russia in Olympics Hockey match. I remember I was invited to watch the fight at a friends house and I declined cause it was gonna be a quick knockout and it was at a weird time cause it was live in Tokyo.

5. Prince/Kobe death-Utter shock and supreme sadness cause they should still be alive. Whitney’s death would also be here as well.

You're correct "Reading Is Fundamental" an the thread title says "Where would you rank Kobe's death among the shocking moments of your lifetime?" You don't just select the words that appeal to you. Its unlikely anyone on this board would even acknowledge your three selections as shocking, relative or even remember them.

Lennon a poor singer but decent songwriter who's music had broad appeal to the most rhythm less people that ever walked this planet. Then Elvis a dude that would've never made a dime without black people who's style and music he stole. Elvis a heavy user of all kinds of drugs barbiturates, sedatives., you name he done it. Lastly Merkel a part of the royal family, never got its chance to make a mark.

Seriously if you found those deaths shocking you're living a totally mundane lifestyle. Don't ever quit this board, you need to be here. You need a life.

FYI Considering Kobe's age I would rank his death a notch above Prince and Michael Jackson.

Seriously, dude, you need to LEARN HOW TO FUCKING READ! I clearly said that "Merkel kid' who lived in my neighborhood. It had nothing to do with the Royal Family. I mean really you can't read and you have no perspective. Whatever life I have I'm glad I spent some time learning to read and most importantly comprehend. As far as Elvis and Lennon are concerned you also don't know shit about music which by the way has nothing to do with the impact of one's death on pop culture at large. I wouldn't dream of leaving this board. It has provided me with endless hours of entertainment. Especially from folks like yourself posting crazy shit.
