I know this has been done before (shoutout @papi68)
But I wanted to give more choices. No doubt even with this long list to choose from, every great gangster film made is not on this list.
So I ask you to pick your top favorites from the choices given.

IMO, even though I'm a fan of most of the movies on this list, to me the overall best one is "Goodfellas", How about you?

Pick your top three choices.

This was a damn good movie. The youngest was the hardest of them all. They all just brought brand new suits because of Noodle's scheme to save a shipment for gangsters that was thrown overboard to hide from the authorities, the gangsters paid them well. This was the start of their gang leveling up until Bugsy grimey ass showed up

Yep. People sleep on this one. It's been awhile, I think I'm gonna give this one another re-watch.

You're welcome to make that thread.

This is about organized crime aka mafia type movies.

...Also, "American Gangster" is on the list.

Un fucking touchables probably 1 of the most slept on films

best thrown off a roof segment

best shoot them in the head zero fucks scene

best so we going there with it early scene

It was a bit way too much Hollywood thrown in the flick. I would have someone other than Kevin Costner as well.
Scarface wasn't bad but how the fuck are people voting for it over any of the other movies? How Sway?
during the 80’s the drug scene was wild. Easily the best flick for showing the rise/fall of a drug gangster movie.

I've gotta go with The Godfather.
TheGodfather-Poster_CR.jpg

Why?
Because The Godfather is UNIQUE.
Just about every movie dealing with organized crime and thugs that came after it has to tip it's hat to Francis Ford Coppala and crew. ;)
It was the 1st American film that gave us a glimpse into the actual workings, the "ethics", the mindset and the brutality of organized crime or "The Mob" that we'd never seen before. Prior to it, gangsters weren't really fleshed out people. They were just "characters" more or less. (Respect to James Cagney).

And IMO, neither The Untouchables nor New Jack City are really "gangster" movies.
Those are really COP movies that show cops fighting against gangsters and their crews.
Unlike The Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas or Casino which were actually ABOUT those criminals/gangsters.
The fact that the gangster in those films (Deniro & Snipes) winded up getting the better juicier roles might make it easy for folks to forget that the movies aren't about them specifically.

It's like saying Avenger Infinity War or Endgame were about Thanos. When they were both actually about The Avengers stopping Thanos. :dunno:

It's the godfather part 2. Shit is just a masterpiece.

And man I never seen Scarface growing up. It never came on cable and you couldn't find it in stores. So finally it was rereleased in the mid 90s and I'm all excited. WHAT FUCKING CARTOONISH TRASH!!!

if you tell me you love Scarface your opinions on movies are complete shit and I'll never listen to your movie recommendations ever again

Your right about godfather 2

But I also love Scarface and recognize its huge cultural significance especially in hip hop culture.

Both things can be true at the same time.

Never mind the fact that like many other members here, I too have had issues/disagreements with Blunt. :hmm:

You don't like me or my opinions?
- Fine.
At least allow me to be my own person without accusing me of being that dude... :dunno:

It's really hard to choose between the Godfathers. The first laid it out perfectly but was more an ensemble piece whereas pt 2 was Pacino and De Niro acting their asses off. Can't go wrong with either one.

Goodfellows is second but some of those old gangster flicks are right there. Especially considering they relied on acting and script because they didn't have anywhere near the technology we have today.

Warriors and education of sonny Carson are movies about gangs but it’s not a gangster movie according to the OP

not enough Ginnys

hey OP is Carlitos way a gangster movie?

or a “organized crime” movie?
