What if atheism actually wins the argument?

South Park did a brilliant little parody of this very premise last season.

Yeah. I get it, but the one thing that they miss is that atheism is different from religion. Reason prevails at all cost. So, wars and all the negative attributes of human behavior are subject to critical examination. Although, I must admit that sometimes people do not critically examine their which is why I am always befuddled when I meet atheists who are racist, sexist or whatever. It seems to me that they critically examine their religous beliefs but not anything else.

Thank God I'm an atheist!

Agnostic actually, but to quote Richard Dawkins, "Most of us don't believe in fairies, spaghetti monsters, celestial tea pots, etc... Most of us are atheist to those gods. Some of us just go one god further."

For those that need convincing, read "The God Delusion" and/or go to youtube and search for Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, Christopher Hicthens, etc..

I got you, but reason doesn't solve problems with controversial data sets.
Reason can't solve liberalism v conservatism, or communism v capitalism, or nationalism v globalism.
Reason can't solve conflicting views of gender roles or settle affirmative action debates.
As long as consciousness is subjective, which data to select, and how to allocate weight will be prone to controversy. As a result, a great deal of these conflicts will be unavoidable.

there are also wonderous things that don't exist but used to exist or might exist in the future. not to mention things that neither exist nor not exist. The Japanese branch of Buddhism label this latter catergory chu and reckon the essence of life is to be found within the incomprehensible mystery of this state. and, according to the 13th Century Japanese scholar C'ha Tan oo'ga , chanting it twice quickly ensures good health and prosperity

There most certainly can be a "finish line." Certain religious groups believed the sun was the center of the universe. After having that belief shattered, scientist continued on, religion was forced to adapt. The thing is, Atheist may very well prove their point and win their argument. A fact is a fact whether a religious person accepts it or not.

i think you meant that people thought the earth was the center of the universe.... but your point still stands. shit galileo was excommunicated for it.

Atheists would form factions much like religions, arguing over the same premise but with their different rules. Some how they would grow to hate each other.

It would be like a new religion, people will always find a reason to kill and fight.

This is probably correct.

bingo.

people fight and kill over which sports teams to rep - what color flags they wear - over lying conniving bitches. atheism is a religion. original poster posted this to publically announce his allegiance to atheism (as a religious person would) and to incite conflict (as a religious person would).

for the record, I'm not religious. nor am i atheist. i don't know anything about anything other than getting pussy, getting money, loving my momma and my brothers - and going hard till my heart gives out. call it agnostic - call it indifferent. but i'm not a fool - nor do I need a label or a flag.

didn't read the replies because NO ONE will accept the other is right as a;ways
but answering your question on the thread title...

it will never happen :hmm:

but you know what's really funny :dunno: being ignorant for not believing, but it doesn't apply the other way around :dunno:

yep, given enough time if would definitely unfold the way you laid it out. Yeah, you're pretty much dead on.

One things for sure, I see with 99% of society....
People lock into their own belief either atheist or religous,
and stop searching and investigating things beyond their own set of beliefs...
The act of considering goes out the window.

And no matter how faith driven or intellectual you are this is still a form of ignorance.
