Egypt moves to seal Gaza border

Egyptian police use a water cannon near the Gaza-Egypt border (25 January 2007)
Almost all of the illegal border entry points have now been closed
Egyptian security forces have begun intervening to try to stem the flow of Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip through its partly demolished border.

Riot police used water cannons against those still attempting to cross the border into Egypt, and announced it would be closed from 1500 (1300 GMT).

Hundreds of thousands have surged into Egypt to buy supplies since militants blew holes in the border on Wednesday.

Israel has demanded Egypt take action, as it is worried about arms smuggling.

No doubt Hamas brought on the Israelis closing of the Gaza/Israeli border, but by blowing a hole in the wall separating Gaza and Egypt, Hamas changes the whole dynamic of the conflict. Condi Rice urged Egypt to replug the gap, effectively allowing Israel to regain complete control over the area.

Hamas may decide to blow open another hole in the Egyptian barrier. If so, Egypt may take more forceful action in keeping the citizens of Gaza out. Even if this comes about, why is the US government once again sticking their jaw into a matter that doesn't directly concern them? This is a matter that should be handled regionally. Even if this all backfires on Israel

Couple of days ago there were news reports that Egypt were letting them through to buy food etc....
They calmly went back to Gaza after their purchases.

Fast forward today, they are portrayed as a problem????

yeah, just let it become a humanitarian problem and then throw blame.........:smh::smh::smh:

I can certainly understand Egypt's position in wanting to plug, or at least control, the flow of who is allowed into their country. We're looking at this from thousands of miles away so we don't know all the details about the hole in the wall. Hopefully Hamas has respect for the right of Egypt to control its border. Since I'm not savvy about their relationship, I can't speak on how one side perceives the other. I saw video on BBC News this morning Egyptian Border Guards were attempting to reestablish control at the hole and Palestinians were throwing rocks at them. I then read water cannons were being sprayed. If blood is spilled, Egypt may blame Israel for creating this latest conflict. I'm sure we can all realize that Hamas had some kind of forethought before they blew up that border wall

good drop.

i'm watching this situation. i think they're suppose to close the opening at 3pm gmt.

but what ou might see is when future missles are launched, israel also blames egypt saying the missles were smuggled in through the breach. :smh:

If Israel blames Egypt for what Hamas has been already doing (which is why Israel closed their border) then there will be absolutely no chance for peace with The Palestinians. I see this conflict lasting for at least another generation
