Trump hits the trail in New Hampshire and South Carolina as he looks to rejuvenate 2024 campaign

230127104628-trump.jpg

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday will deliver the keynote address at the New Hampshire Republican Party’s annual meeting as he returns to the trail looking to ramp up his 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump will address hundreds of Republican leaders and grassroots activists at the meeting in Salem before headlining a second campaign event in South Carolina – also an early voting state – later in the day.

The pair of events offers Trump an opportunity to reinvigorate his campaign, which has been slow-moving since he announced his candidacy in November. The former president remains the only declared major 2024 candidate, but several Republicans have been either publicly weighing or fueling speculation about potential bids.

In New Hampshire, Trump is expected to formally announce that outgoing state GOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek will be added to his campaign operation in the Granite State as a senior adviser, a source familiar with the hire told CNN.

Stepanek co-chaired Trump’s first presidential campaign before becoming the top GOP official in New Hampshire, serving two terms. He joins Trump’s team as the three-time presidential contender looks to repeat his 2016 victory in the first-in-the-nation primary, a task potentially complicated by waning support among state officials who are looking for a fresh face to top their party’s ticket.

Trump’s decision to tap Stepanek was first reported by Politico.

Stepanek had previously expressed enthusiasm about the former president’s upcoming address, saying in a statement, “President Trump has long been a strong defender of New Hampshire’s First in the Nation Primary Status and we are excited that he will join us to deliver remarks to our Members.”

Trump’s visit comes days before the Democratic National Committee is set to meet to vote on a new proposed 2024 presidential primary calendar put forward by President Joe Biden that would strip New Hampshire of it’s first-in-the-nation primary status – a move strongly opposed by New Hampshire Democrats. Republicans have already locked in their early state lineup of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada – the same lineup Democrats previously had.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, seen as a potential contender for the 2024 GOP nomination, has been sharply critical of Trump. He argued in December that Trump is “not the influence he thinks he is” and said that the Republican Party was “moving on” from him.

After the New Hampshire event, Trump will fly to South Carolina, a state that helped pave his way to becoming the GOP nominee in 2016 and where he is expected to unveil a leadership team and a handful of endorsements. Among the top South Carolina Republicans scheduled to attend the event at the Statehouse in Columbia in support of the former president are Sen. Lindsey Graham, Gov. Henry McMaster and US Rep. Russell Fry, who won a primary last year over a GOP incumbent who had voted to impeach Trump.

Trump continues to be investigated by the Department of Justice, and special counsel Jack Smith is overseeing the criminal probes into the retention of classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and into parts of the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol. Both investigations implicate the conduct of Trump.

Trump’s Saturday campaign events come in the wake of recent revelations that classified documents were also found at locations tied to both Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a separate special counsel to take over the investigation into the Obama-era classified documents found at Biden’s home and former private office.

Earlier this week, Facebook parent company Meta announced it would restore Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram in the coming weeks, just over two years after suspending him in the wake of the January 6 attack.

Trump vows to 'stop' gender-affirming care for minors if re-elected president
Trump said he would also push schools to “promote positive education about the nuclear family” and “the roles of mothers and fathers."

Former President Donald Trump vowed in a video released Tuesday that, if he is re-elected, he will punish doctors who provide gender-affirming care to minors and push schools to “promote positive education about the nuclear family” and “the roles of mothers and fathers” as part of a wide-ranging set of policies to use federal power to target transgender people.

In a straight-to-camera video posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he would task several federal agencies to police and ultimately “stop” gender-affirming care for minors, which he equated to “child abuse” and “child sexual mutilation.”

He said he would also prohibit any federal agency from working to “promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age," not just for minors.

The proposals are likely to be met with staunch opposition from LGBTQ rights advocates, who are fighting similar ideas across the country, calling them detrimental to trans people.

Gender-affirming care, according to the Department of Health and Human Services, “consists of an array of services that may include medical, surgical, mental health, and non-medical services for transgender and nonbinary people.”

Trump’s proposals are among the most draconian compared to the many that have circulated in state capitols in recent years, going so far as to suggest that he would push for a federal law recognizing only two genders.

Trump said he would push Congress to pass a law banning gender-affirming care for minors nationwide, order the Justice Department to investigate the pharmaceutical industry and hospitals to see whether they “deliberately covered up horrific long-term side effects of sex transitions in order to get rich” and cut off doctors from Medicare and Medicaid — a potential career-ender for many doctors — if they treat trans youths with hormones or surgery.

In addition, he said he would make it easier for patients who later regret having received gender-affirming care as minors to sue their doctors, calling the procedures “unforgivable.”

Trump also said his policy changes would extend to education.

He has already vowed to create a “new credentialing body for teachers” regarding the teaching of race history, adding that the panel would “promote positive education about the nuclear family, the roles of mothers and fathers and celebrating, rather than erasing, the things that make men and women different.”

He said his Education Department would impose “severe consequences” on any teachers or school officials who “suggest to a child that they could be trapped in the wrong body,” which could include civil rights penalties for the individuals and a loss of federal funding for schools.

“The left-wing gender insanity being pushed at our children is an act of child abuse. Very simple. Here’s my plan to stop the chemical, physical and emotional mutilation of our youth,” Trump said.

Trump is looking to reignite momentum for his second presidential campaign as conservatives nationwide have become increasingly concerned about trans issues, especially gender-affirming care for minors.

The hard-line stance is a departure for Trump, who distinguished himself from more traditional social conservatives in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries by openly courting LGBTQ voters.

Trump, a former Democratic donor from New York City, said in 2016 that he was “fine” with same-sex marriage and that he would be a “real friend” of the LGBTQ community. He has bragged about how he “did great with the gay population,” compared to other Republican presidential candidates.

Five Republican-leaning states have enacted bans or restrictions on gender-affirming care for minors over the past two years: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Tennessee and Utah.

Legislators in at least 21 states have proposed bills this year to ban or restrict gender-affirming care for minors.

Judges have blocked the laws in Alabama and Arkansas, pending the outcomes of lawsuits.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah and the National Center for Lesbian Rights have said they plan to sue Utah within two weeks over its law, which the governor signed Saturday.

Major medical organizations — including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association — have supported gender-affirming care for minors.

not a bad idea at all....I be bullying the hell out of my kids principals...brah

You already can!

If you have a problem with your school's principal talk to the school board. If you don't like what they tell you then vote for their opponent at the next election.

That said, becoming a principal takes a master's degree and at least 10 years of teaching experience. It's a highly skilled and specialized job that needs to be appointed by qualified people.

If you let voters make this decision you'll end up with a guy who shares your views and values, but has to fire half the teachers because he doesn't know how to manage a budget.

It would be like holding an election for head surgeon at the local hospital. The winner would end up being some guy with a plastic smile and a rusty butcher knife.

 the president has absolutely no authority over what schools are allowed or required to teach. Those decisions are made at the state and local level.

:lol:the president has absolutely no authority to ban medical procedures. Those decisions are made by the legislative branch and State government.

 the president has absolutely no authority to punish, fire or reprimand teachers. That's the jurisdiction of the school board and local government.

Hopefully the LGBT community ignores Trump completely and focuses their attention on the people who can actually make those decisions.

America hasn't fallen yet. We still have plenty of dysfunctional years ahead of us.

Our saving Grace is that our biggest problems have ridiculously easy solutions.

Trying to solve a fuel crisis? Build better public transportation. People don't want to take it? Make it free. There's way more than enough money to do this.

Housing crisis? Black people being locked out of intergenerational wealth? Start another new deal housing program. This time don't make it quite so racist. We have way more than enough money and common sense to do this.

The Colorado River is running dry? 40 million people are at risk of getting cut off? Then stop raising cows in the fucking desert! They eat grass for Christ's sake.

Wondering how America will meet its growing energy demand? Stop demanding so much energy.

Bro, don't I know it. There's a ton of dysfunctional years left. Like I said it's like the chicken is running around and just hasn't fallen yet

And their attempt to fuck over black people, they have fucked over millions of white people. Racism and greed are a big part of what's taking this country down.

You're right, they have the ability to fix a lot of the problems going on in america, but they choose not to. Cars should not be running on the same thing they did 100 years ago, but they do

Everything about this country is about profit profit profit and not about getting things done that need to get done which is why nothing will ever get done because the things that need to get done there's no profit money in it

It's funny you should say that.

I've been a vegetarian for about 20 years. Never minded other people eating meat, but always felt that the country would be doing a lot better if more people took on a plant-based diet.

Then the other day I'm at Trader Joe's and see Impossible Burger selling for less than ground beef.

If you're making a scramble it's now cheaper to use tofu than eggs.

So now all that hippie, boho, trust fund shit pretentious people eat to save the planet has suddenly become the most affordable option.

Over the next half decade this is going to have a seismic impact on the way people eat. IMO, it's something that should have happened years ago and now thanks to good old-fashioned capitalism it finally will.

Of course none of this would have been possible if weren't for a tech billionaire buying up all the farmland.

It's wild that we have to damn near destroy the country before we can save it, but at least we've saved it. For now!
