Fans of football have long accepted and even celebrated its violence. I doubt the country suddenly grew a conscience overnight. The rule changes to make the sport less violent have come because of the fear of former player lawsuits. The league knows it's only a matter of time before doctors can find this particular brain damage (can't remember the name or initials) before death. Once that happens its a wrap.
For me it was because of Kap, but I came to the same conclusion.
I also think back to my inlaws having heated arguments over football at dinner. Not just the game, but the trades, injuries, relationships with coaches, lawsuits, divorces, etc. Now I shake my head about how insane it all was. These players didn't give nearly the same fucks about us. God help them if they did

Don't see it as a negative...of course its not on the level of Black Lives Matter or Occupy Wall Street...however, something did come of it...not much though in the big scheme of things but anything is better than nothing...even if its mostly symbolic...kinda has the same lack of focus that a lot of these twitter movements have...I don't think we should be calling these dudes coons and that kind of stuff...especially when most of us work for White supremacy too...I was just pointing out that the current narrative being pushed by the media of anti-Kap being the sole source of the drop is not correct

Sports also help bring people together. They are an important part of society, not to mention damned entertaining. I still like watching hockey, baseball, basketball, and occasionally college football.
What I won't do is visit a redneck bar to watch the Canucks game, Riot when the home team loses or wins, assault a Dodgers fan, or discuss anything that happens off the field unless there's a bigger social or political context to it.
Most importantly, I refuse to treat a sports Stadium like a church that demands my faith and devotion. Especially when the owners of that Stadium inflate the wealth and fame of their players for a profit, but won't allow those players to use that same wealth and fame to protest injustice.
i'll say it again: if some kind of electronic device existed that could black out ALL tv commercials, i'd copped it in a ny second.

Most sport fans don't do half the shit you said as far as that overload of crazy shit.. Also most fans have prob been to less than 10 games in their life..hell there's a shit load of people that never went to their favorite team arena in their life.. Some fans may have only brought 1 team cap or shirt in their life.. You can be a fan without spending a dime on your team..sports is entertainment and also an exercise if you participate in it.. For some others its a revenue generator

The Vancouver Canucks have such a cult of personality that you can walk into any restaurant in Chinatown and see the game playing on TV, even if none of the staff or patrons speak English. In Little India they shut down a section of Scott Road to throw a block party every time the team makes the playoffs. As you might expect, the white folks are just as crazy, myself included. Though I never participated, there was a riot every time the team made the Stanley Cup finals. The last one caused over $1 Million worth of damage. The one before led to over 200 arrests.
