STREET FIGHTER IV Official BGOL Thread + Video Review!

Zangief is The biggest cheat in the Game if used correctly, He can Spin Punch through Fireballs, and Grab you at anytime no matter how you counter..
So. He's been that way since Street Fighter II. Either combo the fuck outta him or stay away. Simple.

Zangief is a fuckin beast. That spin punch is CRAZY. Spin through all fireballs and grab a nigga then powerbomb that ass to death.

I have PS3 and I'm gonna sell it after I beat Metal Gear. PS3 is a GREAT system. Wifi, blu ray, nice graphics, 80 gig for $400. Even though Xbox 360 cost more $300 + $100 for wifi you lose 20 gigs and blu ray but you get a better gaming experience. Xbox live is way better than PS3 online.I don't think the Sony exclusive games come close to Xbox 360 exclusives.

Thanks for these vids man.

This video (and others) show two weak points in my SF game:

1) I don't "poke" enough.
2) I don't throw enough.

Shit man this looks like a match I had with another good Guile player, dude put it on my ass.

And I saw something else that he EX canceled a dragon punch which is something else I don't do enough. I'll do risky shit when it's coming down to the wire and the guy is just crouching and blocking.

The reason I don't poke is because I'm using the fucking controller and I'm not going to go all the fucking way to L2 for ex to get HP on.

I played SFII since the original in the arcades, and played the fuck out of it soon as that shit came out on Super Nintendo. I thought I would love this game, it's been 20 years in the making. I took a 10 dollar loss on this shit and sold it the very next day on Half.com (affiliate of Ebay).

Problem is, after playing 3D fighting games like Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and Soul Calibur, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get myself to like Street Fighter again. It's not a true martial arts game (I'm not saying anyone claimed it was). All it is is people throwing projectiles at each other. Yeah I know that's how it's always been, but still. AFter playing 3D martial arts games, I realized in this game, there's no "moves" other than your special moves. All your non-special attacks feel arbitrary, in the sense that when you're attacking, there's really not a whole lot that differentiates between you doing say a "Medium Kick" as opposed to a "Light Kick." Yeah, frame advantage, combo setups, etc

Dude it's a little bit deeper than that, i.e. cancels, doing a "special move" then EX canceling so you can pull off an Ultra, playing the "wake up" game, "poking" as I mentioned before, zoning, anti-air strategies.

By that same rational there's nothing differentiating low kick and high kick in any 3D fighter either, and there aren't projectiles in 3d fighters because you can just move into a different plane. It's brings a different element of strategy on a 2d plane, which is why they put in the focus attacks and stuff like that, now a guy who just spams fireballs all day will get fadc'ed.

I mean the game is Street Fighter at it's core.

The reason I don't poke is because I'm using the fucking controller and I'm not going to go all the fucking way to L2 for ex to get HP on.

I meant with LP or MK, not the strong buttons, you'll get your ass comboed to death trying to "poke" with them since they take longer.

I never said I was top tier. Hell, DirtyBodega whopped my ass badly. I am merely stating that I put hands on you. Dont try to make it sound like shit was close either I beat you 7-1.

Yo fams...I played you?....Whats your gamertag again...

Problem is, after playing 3D fighting games like Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and Soul Calibur,

There is more strategy involved in Street Fighter than those other games.

Especially compared to Tekken (which I like) where you can knock a nigga into the air and juggle him until the fight is over :smh:

And don't don't get me started on Soul Calibur where any old bum can close his eyes, and smack his hands against the buttons and win a match.

Virtual Fighter is complex (extremely) but it's not half as fun as Street Fighter.

Frame Data and Learning how to tick throw will be something you need constantly practice and utilize. It's all about mixup...with any character....Say for example Ryu:

The Following can be done after one of the following...
After you get a knock down:

1. Walk up to them..do nothing wait for counter move..
1a. Walk up to them...throw them...

2.Charge a focus attack and cancel into backdash..Focus cancel backdash has invulnerability frames in the early stages of the dash.
3. Tick Throw...Simply tap 1-2 jabs or shorts ,(pause)...throw

4. Tick Fake...Simply tap 1-2 jabs or shorts, (pause) shoryuken

5. Poke reset... Two or 3 jabs depending on spacing, jump crossover Mk....

6. Focus cancel Level 1...just tap it (dont hold it down) cancel into forward dash...

Watch bad trends you do....and change them..A poking game KEEPS you on the ground..

Another word to the wise...master FADC (Focus Attack Dash Cancel)
Key to doing big damage and be both off and def in the game...

Still practicing this put I can't yet tap MP+MK and do the FADC.

And I've been using the FADC with pretty good success. It helps me a lot with those people that like to zone.

you wildin son. i love me some vf4, tekken 5, soul calibur and DOA. but sreiously you can be a button masher in those games and get w's. this street fighter is the best i've played since alpha 3. (didn't care to much for third strike all though it was awesome.) It is soooooo deep that it's not even funny. the only thing missing is "alpha counters" and more characters ie. Adon, Dee Jay, Guy, etc.

I need to work on my combos. I got the special moves down pat but I need to work on setting up my special moves with some combos. The one thing I love about this game is that you almost never out of it. I have had some matches that were youtube worthy with the comebacks that I have made.

Wassup son?! Where u at? I'll get at ya! I need some competition!

Saying regular attacks are arbitrary in any SF game basically expose you as a button masher. I wouldn't speak to much on the topic of fighters after that.

Why do you think Guile has a wealth of them and only 2 specials, yet is such a dangerous character in the right hands?

All those games you mentioned are button mashers, while SF IV is the complete opposite, it's about timing, knowledge of the character you're facing... oh YAH, then you have to actually deal with your opponent and their habits and tactics.

That was a good ass match. At 3:24 when Akuma is about to do his Goshoryuken (upper cut) how does he cancle out of it after he starts to jump? I get caught out there so many times cause Ill do that shit and miss, then get his with some kind of combo when he comes down cause he's wide open :angry:

Oh and anyone on here have a fight stick, what button setup do you use? Im having a hard time getting used to this thing. I first had all the top buttons as punches, and the lower as kicks, I was able to do Hadoken's but then cant do the Hadoken's where he jumps up in the air and throws 2 hadokens right after each other.

Street Fighter arcade default:

Punch buttons top three

Kick buttons bottom three.

As for Akuma, use two punch buttons. (It's an EX move)

That's the EX Focus Cancel. Its executed the same way as a regular Focus Attack but u need @ least 2 EX bars on ur Super Meter to cancel a move. Basically after u start up the move [just about any attack that can be canceled with a Super can be canceled with an EX Focus] just press M.Punch and M. Kick together and it'll EX Focus, u can either follow up with another attack or Dash forward or back out of it.

Basically u just have to get used to ur Stick, same thing happened to me when I got my 1st Fight Stick in Dec. I hadn't used a stick in years, like well over 10+ for real and longer than that if u wanna count playing for real on a game like SF. Just keep playing with it and don't give up, u'll start to get the feeling of it more and more as u go along, took me close to 3 weeks to get the total hang of it. Charge characters are best to use initially with ur stick, as their specials are much easier to pull of consistently, go into training mode with ur fireball characters and just practice the moves over and over and over till u get them to @ least 8 times out of 10. Then go into Verses mode and fight the computer on Hard, this will help u to figure out if u can pull off all your moves exactly when u need to with strategy. Once u can beat the computer on hard consistently, not a hard task at all, then u should have the skills enough to beat 65%-70% of people online PS3 even higher on Xbox Live.

One of the best things to do is go into player match with a person of a lil higher skill level than u and play them until they get tired of whooping ur ass. In SF4 getting an ass beating is learning @ its best.

Man I go into training, put the other guy on CPU and for level move all the stars all they way to the right and be giving the computer hell half of the time. Throwing fireballs left and right, doing the spin kick where akuma flys across the screen on command. Doing a low kick, to a mid punch then right into a raging demon, as the computer is getting up then into the wrath of the raging demon Then i get into a rank/player match and instead of throwing fireballs, my guy is doing uppercuts!!! A DAMN UPPERCUT!!:angry::lol:

Then im fighting, I stun the other person, I goto do a kick and Akuma teleports away from the guy!!! OR I need one more hit on the other person, Other person does a low kick, I goto jump back and JUMP FORWARD INTO A FUCKING UPPERCUT!!! GAME OVER!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!:lol::lol: Its like i was better with the reg controller. But its not all bad. Sometimes im playing and then my combos are linking together with my super combo's. Im pulling off stuff and then like, how did I do that?? lol. I did play one other person in player match with a fight stick, that was a very ugly game. I was just happy I hit him so he didn't get a perfect!! lol. Those games looked like I never even seen street fighter before and he looked like one of those high level tournament players on youtube!!:lol::lol:

Im gonna spend the next 2 weeks just getting used to that stick and playing player matches. Anybody on xbox wanna play me let me know. x liquid2000 x Just send me a msg so i know your from bgol, and my mic is broke so you wont hear me cursing when i loose!!:lol:
