Six Anton Yelchin movies releasing posthumously

By Shelby Morton on June 22, 2016 | 2 Comments

Anton Yelchin‘s death on Sunday (June 19) sent shock waves throughout Hollywood, with fans, friends, co-stars and colleagues mourning the loss of the gifted actor. However, Anton’s talent can be seen long after his untimely death in flicks like Alpha Dog, Charlie Bartlett, Like Crazy, and in six brand-new projects set to be released within the next year.

As most fans already know, Anton will be appearing in the third installment of the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek Beyond, which hits theaters on July 22. The sci-fi blockbuster, directed by Justin Lin, sees Anton reprising his role as chief navigator Pavel Chekov, alongside Trekkie alums Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, and Zoe Saldana.

Just days before his death, the actor was revealed to be the star of the Netflix animated series Trollhunters, set to air in December. Anton voices the protagonist, Jim, who, along with his two best friends, discovers a war between good and bad trolls hidden beneath his hometown. Its creator and executive producer Guillermo del Toro, who worked with Anton for close to a year, called him the “sweetest, most humble, delightful, talented guy ” and a “great creative partner and artist.”

In addition to these high-profile projects, Anton also completed filming on several smaller independent films, most notably the romantic drama Porto, which follows a man and a woman as they spend one life-altering night together in the city of Porto, Portugal. In a recent interview, Porto‘s director Gabe Klinger sang his leading man’s praises and said he hopes the film will be out by the end of the year.

“The role, I wish people could discover it already, but we talked about it for a year before we rolled cameras,” Klinger said. “He was developing that character in his mind for a whole year. It was that level of seriousness. It will be very bittersweet now.”

The 27-year-old actor was killed in a freak car accident early Sunday morning, when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backwards and pinned him against a security fence. That specific Jeep model was under recall for “rollaway risk” after a faulty shift mechanism led drivers to believe the car was in park rather than neutral. An investigation has been launched by Fiat Chrysler.

Los Angeles County coroner’s office released their report yesterday, ruling Anton’s death as accidental, citing the official cause of death as “blunt traumatic asphyxia.”

Anton’s other upcoming films include the sci-fi drama Rememory, directed by Mark Palansky and co-starring Peter Dinklage and Julia Ormond; Peer Pederson’s family drama We Don’t Belong Here alongside Catherine Keener and Maya Rudolph, and the Cory Finley thriller Thoroughbred, which comes out next year and stars Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy. ~Shelby Morton

Anton Yelchin’s Death Prompts $5 Million Class-Action Lawsuit Against Jeep

Following the tragic death of actor Anton Yelchin last weekend at the age of 27, a class-action lawsuit has been filed on Thursday against Jeep Grand Cherokee manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for allegedly intentionally covering up a "dangerously defective" gear shifter in the vehicle. Yelchin died in a freak accident in which he was pinned between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and a brick mailbox after the Jeep rolled down his steep driveway while he was out of the car. (Yelchin's car was in neutral and the engine was still running when he was discovered.) Now, seeking restitution, three plaintiffs have filed aclass-action complaint using Yelchin's death and more than 300 other incidents as the central factor.

"One of the most basic safety features in every car is the gear shifter that causes a stationary car to remain stationary, unless and until an operator wants the car to move," states the complaint, which can be read in fullhere. "Though complaints and accident reports have been ongoing since at least early 2015, FCA has only recently initiated a voluntary recall of the over 811,000 Defective Shifter Vehicles in the United States; but to date it has only sent a letter to owners describing the design defect of the ZF Shifter, even though it knows exactly how to fix the problem by looking at what its competitors have done. FCA’s unreasonable delay in fixing the defect and its warning letter was obviously too little, too late for Mr. Yelchin, and nearly a million Defective Shifter Vehicles remain in unsuspecting owners’ driveways and garages." In early 2015, the shifter problems led to a voluntary recall of 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees, as well as 2012 to 2014 Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s.

The suit is asking FCA to replace every shifter or install an equivalent safety override system for all defective vehicles, as well as for punitive damages for fraud, compensation to owners for the loss of the vehicle's value, and a temporary replacement vehicle for the owners. They estimate the damages will be greater than $5 million.

Tell me what the defect is then? Did the button you need to depress on the shifter not work? Can this defect by anyone who operates the shifter correctly be replicated? Millions of vehicles were recalled, show me the Youtube video with someone demonstrating the defect. I'll wait.....

It is a simple software fix, when you are in drive move it once to get it into park. To get into reverse, you have to come down from park only.

It would make parallel parking and parking in general difficult. I never liked the movies since it derived many of its ideas from my work which is fucked up. They than try to cover it up by launching vicious attacks against me.

The Starship Enterprise sails on, but it will leave one crew member behind. While a fourth Star Trek film is already a go, J.J. Abrams says that the character of Pavel Chekov, played by Anton Yelchin, will not be recast. Yelchin, who appears in the upcomingStar Trek Beyond, died in a freak accident last month at the age of 27. “I would say there’s no replacing him,” Abrams toldthe Toronto Sun. “There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better.” Abrams says that he has considered the possibility of writing his death into the script. “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it,” he said.
