Teams are bought and sold by owners. Contracts bind players and dictates their behavior. Granted the money is good but it is still a form of slavery. Lose your endorsements and you go broke.
Those big purses are divied up by managers, accountants, promotions etc. Players get what's left. Just like rappers and entertainers. Even court jesters were slaves just like todays comedians. And drugs plays deeply in all of this. Drugs keep them allll in check. Sports players take "medicinal and enhancing drugs. Entertainers take sedatives, hallucinagens, and uppers to help "visualition/creativity. Modern day slavery is very complex and intricate........"Virtually" invisible to the "untrained mind".

thats retarded.Everybody who works for a business- the business has owners. If you work (that's a big IF), you have a company CEO, who, by your retarded definition OWNS you.

Its modern day slavery but it just "pays good". What the fuck? Well shit if slaves got paid real good and could up and leave their job anytime they wanted to the shit wouldn't be called slavery now would it?

What about players like Micheal Jordan who went from a player to owner. What about a lot of other players who have been successful after sports with the money they earned from sports? Modern day slavery is the penitentiaries, and manual low paying labor jobs.

Man this nigga can't work if he thinks working is slavery. He's gonna be broke and out of a job his whole life with that mentality. Niggas keep comparing athletes to slaves when athletes have the right at ANY TIME to quit their job if they don't like it. Its a insult to people who went through slavery to even compare such a thing.

You do have a choice as to whether or not you attempt to pursue a career in sports. At any time, you are free to quit that sport and just walk away (Barry Sanders). I don't ever recall slaves having any sort of option like that (yeah, you could attempt to run away and risk death).

Getting paid millions to do something you enjoy and have loved to do at least in high school or college for free is nothing even remotely close to slavery.

The OP is right...

It must be a bitch to live in a 15,000 square foot home, drive any car you want, have women throwing themselves at you and have more money than you know what to do with.

Then...imagine,you have an 'owner' who wants you to act like a decent human being:smh::smh:how can these guys live under this barbaric treatment.

All of the stupid things people say these days...comparing modern day athletes to slaves,is at the top of the list.

If you want to compare sports before Curt Flood, perhaps you could use some analogies...even then:smh::smh:

Do you work a job? If you do, I will die laughing.

These athletes weren't forced into playing sports. Getting millions of dollars to play a game is not slavery.

Saying this is disrespectful to what real slaves experienced.

Damn, and I thought it was a choice to play sports and you could quit anytime you want.

Here's my question..........

How come dudes in entertainment/sports, etc. got all this bank ( A-Rod-$250mil contract, Bron $100+mil contract, Jigga-$400mil, Denzel-$40mil for american Gangster, Will-$36mil a movie, etc. ) yet we don't own or control shit?

I hate that comparison, because you're often comparing 30 and early 40 somethings to dudes who are 60.

Those same dudes often didn't earn the money themselves, they inherited it. Blacks and latinos have first generation money.

Slavery is a system under which people are treated as property and are forced to work.[1] Slaves can be held against their will from the time of their capture, purchase or birth, and deprived of the right to leave, to refuse to work, or to demand compensation.

So lets end this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!
