yeah, context would be helpful.
But I'm sure this FILM was telling a story about someone's life, as visioned/written by Micheaux FOR ADULTS, compared to the pop-star Minaj twerking for the kids and having y'alls daughters copying to please y'alls sons who expect Minaj-like twerks from the girls.

I'mma have to watch that clip all the way thru. I skimmed it - there were some hip moves I wanna "study".
You gave the proof largebills needed to make his point, but Nicky's move to twerk vs. sing/rap is a downward move for her career imo.
She doesn't need gimmicks like she's someone tying to get established. If she wants more movie stints or more than a cell carrier ad she gotta show inner talent, not just outer assets.

I get you point though. Times was different. Thinking was different. Communication and access to media was different. I do think these earlier decades of black entertainment (20s, 30s, and 40s) was a finer time. Kids wasn't expose to so much adult stuff like they are today. Adult stuff was usually for adult eyes. Much of that has been redefined.
There was a time when talent mattered. But there were actress/entertainers where the sex appeal was the driving force of their career. Nina Mae McKinney started off as playing a jezebel. Carried her career that way. Eartha Kitt had a very strong sex appeal when she started, so the idea of what was appropriate was different. What was considered unappropiate then is looked at a normal by today's standards.
