Sixers have been working on a potential buyout of the remainder of CWebb's contract

Philly is serious about cutting salary. I would consider picking him up at the veterans minimum if I was a GM.

i wasn't a big fan of the trade (but i wasn't a big opponent either).

in retrospect, what was i thinking?

bloated contract aside, the 76ers gave up a more mobile and active kenny thomas, a stronger brian skinner and corliss williamson.

in exchange they got a slower chris webber that was a shadow of his former self, beat up after years of playing PF when he was really an oversized SF.

Everyone felt the same way based off of the contract that he had. That was way too much to give up for someone that is past his prime.

Hell, based off his injuries and with teams favoring a more up tempo style, I wonder who would pick him up. I think he could be a good bench player or sixth man..I don't know about starting.

I'll bet he has A.I. on speed dial right now...

Webber's entire career has been one big mistake.
he is never in the right place at the right time

I'll call it like I see it, RS. CWebb is not a franchise player. He is not the dude that I want to have the ball in important points of a game. His decision making ability is suspect in clutch points of a game (The "time out" incident aside) and he really hasn't shown me that he should be the face of an organization. He would be a great #2 dude or complementary player..and at this phase of his career a great 6th man.

He should just take the veteran minimum and jump on a team that could use him. He still gets you 8-10 boards and 12-15 points a game..he can still stretch defenses with his jumper. He'll be playing somewhere soon. (Hopefully Denver)

..similar story out of Philly:

This may be the beginning of a trend. There is already talks of the Knicks buying out Steve Fracis' contract and him going to Philly as a free agent.

the team that could use him right now because of injuries is the new orleans hornets. or the height challenged new jersey nets.
