This article is about several different Black families who found out that their ancestors had bought land in California in the 1800s.
You pretty much know the rest: White folks swindled and/or just stole the land. California was a free state, but it was still racist as f*ck. California's Governor back then was a real piece of work. He wanted to exterminate all of the native peoples so whites could take their land and benefit from it.
We should all be looking into out ancestor's affairs, now. You never know what you may be entitled too.
