How can I go to college with no money?
Please don’t let the cost of a college degree deter you from achieving your goal. Besides scholarships, grants, and work-study programs, there are some colleges that actually offer free tuition; however, some stipulations may apply. When considering a “free” program, check out the details as some will require you to “return the favor,” such as through military service or student labor programs.

Are free-tuition colleges properly accredited?
Yes, free tuition colleges offer the same accreditation as the traditional programs in which you pay full price; although, with any program, you must verify accreditation before enrolling to ensure a quality education, as well as the option for credit transfers if needed.

Is there a free online university?
Although tuition-free colleges may exempt you from paying tuition costs, you will most likely be responsible for costs incurred for textbooks, miscellaneous fees, meals, and of course, your room and board. Another way to save on costs is to attend a tuition-free online university; hence saving dollars on travel, meals, and accommodations.

The 8 Ivy League schools are among the most prestigious colleges in the world. They include Brown, Harvard, Cornell, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, and Columbia universities, and the University of Pennsylvania.

All eight schools place in the top fifteen of the U.S. News and World Report 2017 national university rankings.

These Ivy League schools are also highly selective and extremely hard to get into. But the good news is that all these universities now offer free online courses across multiple online course platforms.

So far, they’ve created over 300 courses, of which around 250 are still active. Class Central has made a collection of all these, which you can explore below. I’ve split these courses into the following categories:

  • Computer Science
  • Business & Management
  • Humanities
  • Art & Design
  • Science
  • Health & Medicine
  • Mathematics
  • Education & Teaching
  • and Engineering
I’ve also assembled these courses on Class Central’s collection page for Ivy League MOOCs. This collection gets updated automatically as new courses are added. You can subscribe to receive updates by clicking the blue “follow” button there.

I would add to that list some classes on Itunes University.

Yale has posted full semester courses with the syllabus. I think there's about 30 one hour lectures per course.

I recommend the Civil War and Reconstruction with Pulitzer Prize winning David Blight and the American Revolution with Joanne Freeman. I watched the course and did all the reading assignments.

Some times I think technology is incredible. I can watch an Ivy League lecture with a Pulitzer Prize winning author on my iPad. I can then download and read the suggested reading on the same device. I can then listen to Podcasts or watch a Youtube video with that author talking about the book on that same device. It's like having the library of Alexandria in my hand.

And then I think about how motherfuckers were able to spread rumors that the President was Muslim and a socialist born in Kenya with that same technology. Idiocracy!

edX
edX offers free online college courses, which are designed for high school students preparing to take college entrance exams and those interested in learning what college courses may be like. This free online school also offers courses for those looking to further their careers and those who desire to learn more.

edX offers three different certificate options: the MicroMasters Certificate, Professional Certificate, and the XSeries Certificate. The MicroMasters Certificate may provide credits needed to help speed up receiving a Master’s Degree. The Professional Certificate shows employers that you have mastered certain skills which may further your career and provide advancement opportunities. The XSeries Certificate shows that you have taken the time to learn certain subjects in-depth.

University of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge has partnered with Apple to create its tuition-free college available in iTunes U. This educational opportunity allows you to download both audio and video versions of courses. To download these classes, students need to download iTunes; however, you do not need to have an Apple product as long as you have a media player that will play MP4 videos or AAC audio files.

These free online college courses are gathered from public videos, podcasts, lectures, and other educational costs. You can take free online courses in art, science, philosophy, and more. However, you do not have the opportunity to earn any certificate or diploma with these free online college courses.

Columbia University
Columbia University’s free online courses are listed under ColumbiaX, as they use the edX platform. If you are acquiring knowledge without the need for a degree or diploma, you have the option to “audit” the courses at no charge. However, if you are looking to earn a certificate, these courses will cost you a little bit of money.

Columbia’s mission is to provide everyone a chance at higher learning, especially those who may not have the finances to take traditional university courses. Columbia offers a wide variety of programs, so there is something for just about everyone. Some of the free online courses that this college offers include Robotics, Psychology, Python Analytics, Data Science, and even Artificial Intelligence.

Massachusetts Information of Technology
MIT is another college that offers online courses at no cost. Classes are delivered to you via OpenCourseWare, which incorporates audio/video lectures and online textbooks. MIT takes a different approach than most online colleges, as it provides its entire curriculum to the public, instead of only certain courses. Adding an additional level of education, MIT also includes Faculty Teaching Insights to its students. This is created to help you better understand the subjects you are studying through the view of the instructors.

Since MIT chooses to provide all of its curricula to students at no cost, you can choose to learn about any subject that MIT offers. You also have the ability to start most courses at any time you wish. You also have the option of picking and choosing which subjects you want to learn about within its free online courses. Keep in mind that while MIT’s free courses will provide a wealth of information to you, there is no diploma or certificate offered for any of the courses.

Essentials of Global Health is designed to be a comprehensive introduction to global health. The class has a particular emphasis on low- and middle-income countries, the health of the poor, health disparities, and how health matters in the context of global interdependence.
Much of the course focuses on investigating five key questions. What do people get sick, disabled, and die from? Why do they suffer from these conditions? Which people are most affected? Why should we care about such concerns? What can be done to address key health issues as quickly as possible, and in sustainable ways?

Introduction to Climate Change and Health
Markus Spiske/PexelsFree seven-day trial
Length: 15 hours
This course was designed to get critical information on climate change into the hands of people who can take concrete steps to address its threat, including health and environmental professionals, changemakers, and the general public.
Robert Dubrow, a Yale epidemiology professor, covers the science of climate change with an emphasis on health equity. Students learn how climate change affects human health, its adverse health effects (including those related to extreme heat, waterborne infections, and insect-borne diseases among others), and how measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions can both limit future climate change and provide immediate health "co-benefits".
