I quit teaching about a year ago.

I lost count of the number of times I complained to the School District superintendant, the principal, the AFT, several of his assistants, and the president of the school board about middle school kids threatening to shoot us all dead at school, only to be ignored.

Glad I quit. Teaching in the U.S. ain't worth it.

Suspected shooter dead in Colorado school shootingPolice say the suspect, a male student, opened fired at Evergreen High School in Colorado, wounding two classmates and then turning the gun on himself.

A student who authorities say opened fire at his Colorado high school on Wednesday, wounding two classmates and then turning the gun on himself, has died, according to the local sheriff's office.

The gunfire at Evergreen High School broke out at about 12:24 p.m. local time, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Three students were taken to the hospital in critical condition following the gunfire, including the suspected shooter, who was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office confirmed the suspect died in a post on social media Wednesday evening.

Authorities have not publicly released his identity.

One of the wounded students with non-life-threatening injuries was released Wednesday night, with the second wounded student remaining in critical condition, hospital officials said on Thursday.

A fourth student was also transported to the hospital, but with an unknown injury, authorities said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said he was "devastated" by the shooting.

"My heart goes out to the victims and their families as they grapple with this senseless act of violence," Polis said.

"This is the scariest thing you'd think could ever happen," said Jefferson County sheriff spokesperson Jacki Kelley at an earlier news conference.

Kelley said she could not provide any other details about the suspected shooter, including the suspect's age or gender.

"I don't know if our suspect is even old enough to drive," Kelley said.

She said authorities were seeking a warrant for the student's home and locker.

The sheriff's office said the suspect was armed with a revolver handgun.

I worked as a teacher assistant in an elementary school class from about 2014-2016.

When I got out, I thought it was a good timing based on the increased amount of school shootings between 2014-2018.

Little could I have known that the number would jump up 5 fold in just a few short years.

At this point I'd be surprised to see a school year start and we DON'T have a shooting before Oct 1st. Shit just seems apart of the normal school year now. :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh:

This shit is so normal nobody cares. This is easily solvable by putting metal detectors into all schools not just the hood ones. Notice we don’t and can’t do this?
Exactly!
My high school had metal detectors and in 4 years the only gun incident was one person trying to sneak a gun into school to shoot one person.

A brotha bringing a gun to school is trying to shoot that ONE ASSHOLE who crossed the lined yesterday. That ONE ASSHOLE who disrespected their little sister. The ONE ASSHOLE who etc.

The idea of bringing in a duffle bag filled with 20+ AK-47s so that you can kill the whole school is a uniquely CaC idea.

My first year as a teacher, a certified teacher, one of my students brought a bag of large caliber bullets to the school. His mom (who I called at work nearly every fucking day) worked for the Mayor at the time, and was buddies with the principal. This was not his first offense. Kid didn't miss a day of school.

Another brought a bag with an assortment of butcher knives and sharp lawn tools, intent on attacking the kid who beat up his little bro the day before.

They were both in 5th grade.

GUNS ARE THE PROBLEM.

JUST AS BAD, yet RARELY DISCUSSED, is the fact that parents are almost NEVER, EVER held accountable.

This ain't what I think. It is what I have lived.

Cheers.

It ain't normal that a 21 year old with a driver's license can literally buy an assault rifle or a street sweeper at the local pawn shop for less than $600. (It was $450 and up last time I was there, about a year ago).

The way we live in this country is simply not normal. What I cannot EVER get across to people I know who have not left this country is that EVERY place outside the U.S. I have visited, even El fucking Salvador, restricts access to guns, especially hand guns. We used to to this. Now look at us.

Just sayin'.
