If anything; all he's done is commit the very same violent, intolerant crime he accuses that senator of espousing.
This little intolerant asshole premeditatedly took eggs to a location he knew the senator would be, and decided to assault him. (What if instead of an egg, he used a gun?)
Whenever you feel it's OK to act violently because you don't like/agree with someone else's POV, you've already lost the argument.
It this kind of thinking that allowed this maniac to mow down protesters in Charlottesville:
