I have all faith that this movie will be GREAT... but right now I just see Jennifer Hudson playing Jennifer Hudson wearing a vintage gold lame dress...

Here’s a first look at American Idol season 3 alum and The Voice coach Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin in the upcoming biopic Respect. Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, Respect is the true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.

Directed by Liesl Tommy and written by Tracey Scott Wilson, Respect’s co-stars include Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.

I still say Monica would of been better,but the younger Aretha Jennifer could pull it off but when I look at her I don't see it.Like for example Jamie Foxxx did such a good job as Ray til in the first ten minutes of the movie I forgot that it was Jamie and still to this day certain movies like Ray,Malcolm X,Little Richard,Five heartbeats,Cadillac records...

IMO perfect casting would have been queen latifah 25 years ago... But jhud should kill it... totally in for this one!

My first time seeing that. At first I thought she was sending signals to the little boy. But after I knew it was the grown man, I already knew exactly what they’d have her doing. Just wasn’t sure where. She was convincing though.
