Altamonte Springs school resource officer arrested, fired in child porn investigation

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A school resource officer with the Altamonte Springs Police Department has been arrested in a child pornography investigation.
Steven Selph was arrested Friday morning by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Selph faces 10 counts related to child pornography, police said. He is being held in the Lake County jail.

Selph was assigned as a school resource officer at Spring Lake Elementary School, according to Altamonte Springs police. According to Seminole County Public Schools, it’s not believed any students at the school were involved.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it is believed the crimes happened on or between May 31, 2022, and Sept. 13, 2022. The affidavit said agents found child pornography on Selph’s phone and within a texting app called KIK.
The department said most of the conversations happened while Selph was working as a school resource officer at the school, according to the affidavit.
Altamonte Springs police had suspended Selph without pay pending the results of an FDLE investigation. The agency searched his home this week.
With the completion of FDLE’s investigation, Altamonte Springs police said it had “immediately” fired Selph from the department and was launching an internal investigation.
