DETROIT -- The pastor of a Detroit Church that was set on fire a few days after a teenage girl accused him of molestation was charged Friday in connection with the allegations.
The Rev. Timothy Jackson of the Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God was arraigned Friday in 36th District Court on six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony that carries a maximum life sentence in prison.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond, or 10 percent. He will be back in court on Sept. 1 for a preliminary examination.
Investigators said Jackson, 46, assaulted a congregant, who is now 14 years old, several times between 2009 and 2010.
The assaults took place at the church, which is located on Livernois Avenue in southwest Detroit, according to investigators.
The church went up in flames just after 6 a.m. on Aug. 6., a day after it was raided by police.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but it left the church in ruins, said firefighters.
