racism needs 1 - ignorance and 2 - being unfamiliar with the race
NYC has one of the most intelligent populations in the world. And races mix all over the place from young to old. If racist shit pops off between, say, me and some honky, it's much more likely white people will side with me in NYC than some southern city. Not to mention Black people will def have my back. Down south lots of Black people still have a subservient attitude.
That's not to say NYC is perfect, it's far from it, but I've traveled all over the US and there is no comparison between NYC and the southern cities.
