I knew a guy who owned a Quiznos in my neighborhood and the stories he had told me were horrific. First off, Quiznos Corporate does not sell the Franchisees food at cost they tack on an extra 7% on all items which lines the pockets of the Franchisor. Then ontop of that they force the Owner's to buy the food in massive quantites even if your store doesn't get a lot of traffic so often your food spoils and so that's wasted money. They end up having so much surplus that two Owners often partner up and buy supplies once a month and split them. Then to add insult to injury Quiznos takes an additional 4% from the Owners which they say is for Advertising Expenses, right. That's not all though...Quiznos Corp. often builds new locations so close to their existing ones that it hurts the existing location's sales. This time last year we had around 7 Quiznos in Long Beach, Ca. now we only have two. The writing is on the wall for the franchise.

Mailboxes ETC/UPS Store - that chain is fuuuuuuuuuuucked. UPS web shipping rates are cheaper than the fuckin UPS Stores - theyre fucked cuz they are basically a UPS shipping facility. They have to live off supplies, box rentals and copies.
I'm telling you that all those rates and having to buy from them was in the contracts. Before they bought a franchise they could have talked to other owners who were getting fucked. They didnt. All they saw was the potential pile of cash.
I feel bad for them but these folks are dumb. They were sold a franchise like a used car. Who the fuck invests hundreds of thousands without proper investigation and legal advice? Only an idiot.

The problem is these franchisees have no fuckin business experience. You're selling food to people who could go anywhere for what you're pushing. You better make that experience at your restaurant the best fuckin experience possible or die out like most other restaurants.

I stopped by the BP on Key Highway yesterday to fill up with the cheapest gas in Baltimore (with car wash .20 off/gallon). I copped my freebie while I was there with no problem. No ID was requested, and the service was great. An hour later, I stopped by the Q's in the run down Randalstown shopping center and the Asian dude at the register seemed to have some trouble. He kept keying in the number and asked to see my ID. I think he wanted to give me a problem, but I had the "don't get fucked up tonight" look on my face. And I did buy extra stuff so they should be happy. If there's any reason to be upset it's that Quiznos HQ launched a flawed promo. Who was the genius who didn't realize that the nation would rape thier promo? They should have protected themselves better and advised their franchisees on how to take full benefit from the promo.

Yeah Quiznos could have been more thoughtful in how they launched the promo. They could have put in place a way for owners who dont participate to lessen the customer frustration by making them offer some type of discount and empasizing the value of a repeat customer.
Show me a businessman who treats his customers like shit and Ill show you a guy likely to go broke.
