Nickelodeon Cartoon Insults Black Women's Natural Hair

Man good lord.... I saw this on Mediatakeout the other day and called them out for the fact that this is like the 3rd time that they talked about this cartoon. This episode came out back in 2004 and it's not even a nickelodeon cartoon. There story makes it seem like it's Nickelodeon's issue when it's the company that makes the show's problem. This is the same mess that they did with that old ass HBO cartoon. No issues with the posted story... I just hate when mediatakeout... posts old ass shit like its new and still refuses to vet their own shit.

I could be wrong but I think people here are a little too quick rushing to judgement without watching the entire episode.
Based on just that clip alone, I don't think people are getting a full understanding of what the creators of the show were trying to accomplish.
I get the feeling that the episode MAY have been developed to actually showcase self acceptance & to embrace the characters natural hair and beauty.

Commenting on that very selective clip alone is probably misleading...

nah if I remember correctly the toon ended with her getting her hair straightend like fur,

from so many complaints its my understanding nickelodean has since edited it....

We are all affected by these false standards of beauty. To deny it is to live in some alternate reality. There is no shame in admitting that the repeated images of white supremacy has an adverse affect on us all. Once you can acknowledge this then there is a way to move forward. I refuse to blame black men or women for this. It is counterproductive to healing and moving forward.

They aren't envious of us.

What kills me about these chicks that want the greasy straight hair look is the fact that white people dont like either. They consider people with oily hair beneath them. But most of our sisters haven't caught onto that yet.

Ive always thought that the less tell-lie-vision you watch as a whole the better it is it.

White people are a trip.

The saddest part many black women and men feel the same way that cartoon feels about natural hair. I love natural hair, don't know how you can't.
