Where did the top draft picks call home? Where did they play in college? And how did Rivals.com evaluate them in high school?

What we found in the top 100 draft picks was that it was a good year for the state of California, particularly the Los Angeles area. Nearly as many of the top 100 came from the Los Angeles metro area (nine) as from the states of Florida (11) and Texas (10).

Only the state of California had more players than Florida among the top 100, but some of the Sunshine State's traditional hotbeds appeared to have a down year.

Only two players from the Miami/Fort Lauderdale metro area were picked in the top 100. However, both were picked in the first round. LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, a Miami Norland grad, was taken 23rd overall by Kansas City. Miami linebacker Jon Beason, from Miramar Chaminade-Madonna, was taken 25th overall by Carolina. The Jacksonville or Tampa/St. Petersburg metro areas were not represented in the first three rounds.

The third member of the big three high football states, Texas, had 10 of its graduates in the top 100 draft picks. The metro areas of Dallas, Houston and Austin each had two alums in the top 100.
