New York State To Ban Gas, Diesel Car Sales By 2035

New York State is the latest U.S. body politic to implement a ban on gasoline and diesel vehicle sales.

Governor Hochul signed legislation this week that will require all new passenger cars and trucks sold in New York State to be zero-emissions by 2035. In addition, the law will require all new off-road vehicles, like ATVs and side-by-sides, as well as other powered equipment, to be zero-emissions by 2035. New medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles will also have to be battery-electric by 2045.

In a statement released Thursday, Hochul called the legislation “the nation’s most aggressive plan to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions affecting our climate.”

“The new law and regulation mark a critical milestone in our efforts and will further advance the transition to clean electric vehicles, while helping to reduce emissions in communities that have been overburdened by pollution from cars and trucks for decades,” she added.

While truck manufacturers will only be allowed to sell EVs by 2045, they will have to begin offering battery-electric products much sooner than that. Truck companies would be required to meet a certain annual sales percentage of zero-emission trucks, which will vary among vehicle weight classes, beginning with the 2025 model year. By the 2035 model year, at least 55 percent of all new Class 2b-3 pickup trucks and vans, 75 percent of all new Class 4-8 trucks, and 40 percent of all new Class 7-8 tractors sold in New York State must be zero-emission. Hochul says this requirement follows the template set by the California Advanced Clean Trucks Rule.

In April, the governors of 12 U.S. states wrote a letter to President Biden urging him to implement a nationwide ban on new gasoline vehicle sales by 2035. The letter was signed by the governors of California, New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington State and Rhode Island. The letter also pushed for the White House to implement new purchase incentives to drive the adoption of electric utility trucks and vans.

These cats are putting the cart before the horse. Work on upgrading the grid first. With what we have now, If every single car in New York was electric, the strain on the system would be insane. I'm all for it, but IMO, NO way we can have the infrastructure reinforced enough by 2035 to warrant the banning of gas car sales.

And people are forgetting that many of the power plants (although there are some hydroelectric) supplying the State are carbon emitting.

Start spreading Da news! I pray for you NY niggas

uh why, california is the one leading the charge arent they??

you dont think less gas vehicles is a good thing?

Of course its going to speed the way for smart driveless cars,

and smart highways....?

america has to become a leader again in infrastructure and tech,

they got countries that are going full with clean renewable energy,

like iceland, if america dont move now,

they will be left behind... China been got the memo,

Americas greedy financial elite did waaay too much

taking money out the country....

they been cracking down on offshore accounts for a minute now,

they started with swiss accounts...

so if the govt dont act fast... and stop our tax dollars

from bleeding out the country...

well when Kazakhstan starts calling U.S.A a

SHITHOLE country..

we will have our pathetic leadership of the last

four hundred years to blame..

NYC power grid will most likely will not be able to handle it in the summer months.
NYC power grid can barely handle summer months as it is right now. About a month ago they literally asked people to not run any electronics like air conditioners in their homes for a few hours so that the grid wouldn't collapse & result in brownouts or blackouts :smh:

Their fuckin buggin. I don't mind the concept change, but folks love the IDEA of something like this w/o actually planning it out practically.

Like others have said: "sounds good, but you gone ahead first and provide the proper infrastructure then let's talk"

I was talking to a friend who lives in a community with condos, townhomes, and 1 high rise. The condo he lives in has approx' 64 units. As do the 2 other buildings which are housed under the same parkade. So essentially 192 units with essentially a combined 350 - 400 parking stalls. Plus, the additional visitor parking of 40 - 50 stalls when you first drive in, and little to no street parking which is pretty much always 90% taken round the clock.

At some of the AGMs in recent years the topic of EV charging stations came up. People getting really heated saying they want to see it done ASAP (1 or 2 charging stations in visitor parking). "It will increase property value for current owners & future sellers", etc. Parkade is not laid out as such presently to allow for charging stations for individual peoples' stalls.

Mind you, only a few of the people at the AGM said they had EVs. Others were indecisive as to if and when they'd buy one.

Others were scratching their heads saying - "What good are 1 - 2 charging stations?" (once many more people buy them) - especially when there aren't many charging stations in the community / city at large as is ... as others have noted in the thread re: grid / infrastructure concerns.

They are playing a bunch of games with EV chargers, putting limited capacity on the grid. Than at key locations such as malls with EV chargers putting up signs shutting them down due to blackouts. They are desperately trying to dissuade EV buyers. I got my sign that is going up at gas stations that you can't fuel up between 4pm to 9pm due to shortages.

A couple of auto manufacture announced locating a site for a $10 billion battery factory, these signs disappeared.

I sense political corruption behind the scenes, the same dark forces that have impacted me for many years and has driven me out of the U.S. Not adding enough capacity or requiring improved efficiency. I was shocked this similar tactic was being used in California, I was in disbelief.

This was up at a Michigan mall I frequent during the week, their grid can't handle 70 degree heat?

My phone is non stop ringing for my consulting practice, I have developed very effective countermeasures to political corruption. Not only are these corrupt politicians a danger to your business, which they will run into the ground without blinking a eye, you could also face physical security/harm.

I did some investigative reporting into this, it looks like certain companies that I won't name just sells the equipment and the 'siteowner' is free to do what they want. They also booby trapped their equipment with antiquated 3G modems that is now shutdown. This will force the site owner to buy new expensive equipment limiting supply even further.

So a fossil fuel company could setup a shell company to buy this equipment at key locations to do their propaganda, not interested in recouping their investment or maximizing their profit to shareholder.

Fortunately, the other companies derive their revenue from payment collected from customers. I did not know all this drama was going on behind the scenes. It is like a homeless person going to a shelter and getting scripture read to them.

I noticed municipalities and other corrupt politicians are into this racket along with organizations in the private sector providing low cost charging at key city properties. The equipment is never available or shut down during 'peak' hours. We could be looking at assassination and conflict for many years.

This gives you a taste of what I have been dealing with for many years where it is hard to startup your business, and a well funded incumbent with political connections disrupts your activity.

With the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act,

1. Get the government out of the EV charger market, there is all kinds of corruption that can happen with cities, or even electric power utilities providing chargers on the highway, the governor appoints people to the PUC - Public Utilities Commission.

2. Because corrupt politicians have influence over the electric power utilities, EV charger companies are going have to incorporate renewables onsite. Expect limited capacity to discourage EV purchases.

3. China will dominate the market, they execute corrupt piece of garbage without hesitation. They are not constrained at all, with greedy politicians looking for a political donations, playing both sides.

There will be battles with the fossil fuel companies and EV for decades playing games.
