Netflix Renews Lucifer for Final Fifth Season

It’s the end-times for Lucifer, the show about a sexy crime-fighting devil and all the shirts he takes off. After being canceled by Fox, the show was saved by Netflix for a fourth season. Now the powers that be have decided to give the light-bringer one more concluding season. “We’re thrilled that Lucifer fans around the world have embraced this series on Netflix, and we can’t wait to give them the big finish they’ve all been waiting for,” the company said in a statement reported by Deadline. Lucifer is one of several Neil Gaiman works currently having a second life as TV shows. American Gods is getting a third season on Starz, and Amazon’s Good Omens adaptation premiered earlier this week. Lucifer is probably the most divergent from its source material, as Lucifer in the comics is a cabaret owner and in no way solves murders. Causes a few, though. Lucifer is in the Netflix U.K.’s top-ten titles. With all five seasons on the streaming service, it will be among the platform’s original series with the most episodes.

Netflix orders more Luciferepisodes for final season

Netflix is giving Lucifer a helluva send-off.

The streaming service announced Friday that it’s extending its final season order for the supernatural crime drama.

Instead of ending the show with merely 10 episodes as previously announced, Lucifer will conclude with 16 episodes.

Granted, that’s still not as big as the show’s final season on Fox, which had 26 episodes, but it’s better than what we thought we were getting.

Fox axed Lucifer last year after three seasons. A month later, Netflix picked up the show for a fourth season of 10 episodes (which premiered in May), and then last month renewed the show for a fifth and final season.

The show follows the charming and handsome Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), and LAPD detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) as they solve crimes.

The rare combination of sexy and ABSOLUTELY Beautiful. Ok so her titties aren't great but that face, legs, cute bootie, and sex appeal make up for that.

The fifth and final season of Lucifer doesn’t yet have a release date, but thanks to star Tom Ellis and mega-fan Kelly Clarkson, we now know a bit more about the show’s swan song.
In a clip from her new talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer-turned-TV-host treats her mom and sister, who are big fans of Lucifer, to a set visit. The trio freak out about meeting some of the cast from their beloved show, with Clarkson’s sister, Alyssa, hilariously sharing, “I read books — as my sister calls them, ‘naughty books’ — and Tom Ellis is the man I envision, so there you go.”
At the end of the clip, Ellis shares some exclusive news with Clarkson and family. “Season 5 of Lucifer is going to be split into two halves,” he says. “Netflix is going to drop eight episodes, there’s going to be a little break, and then they’re going to drop another eight more episodes.”
Based on the DC Comics character, Lucifer stars Ellis as the eponymous fallen angel, who abandons his throne in hell to work with the LAPD to take down criminals on Earth. Lauren German, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Scarlett Estevez, D.B. Woodside, and Rachael Harris also star in the show.

Lucifer is staging two family reunions with one divine casting choice.
EW can exclusively reveal that Dennis Haysbert is joining the Netflix-Warner Bros. TV drama as God — yes, the God — and will appear throughout the fifth and final season. In other words, the rebellious Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and his angelic brother (and God’s favorite son) Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) will be spending some quality time with with their father in the farewell season. (Neil Gaiman, whose Sandman comics inspired the series, voiced the character of God in one of season 3’s bonus episodes).
“We did like the big crazy list of [possible actors for the part], and he was my top choice,” Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson tells EW. “We were lucky. It was our first and only offer.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Haysbert and Woodside have played family on TV. They previously starred as brothers (and presidents) David and Wayne Palmer, respectively, on Fox’s 24. In fact, Woodside played a small part in helping Lucifer land Haysbert for this heavenly role.

“D.B. had actually come up to us and said, ‘Have you thought about Dennis?’ We were like, ‘Do you think he’d actually do it?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I’ve already talked to him and sort of brought it up.’ And so we just went straight on at him,” says Henderson.
Getting to work with Woodside again was one of the reasons Haysbert said yes to the part. “Every time I see D.B., there’s always this fondness and this connection…We worked on a show that was arguably one of the best shows ever produced in television, so you’re going to have a kind of camaraderie,” says Haysbert, before adding with a laugh, “I don’t know how I went from brothers to father. We’re celestial. We can do that.”

Lucifer‘s fourth season ended with Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) finally telling Lucifer she loved him right before he returned to Hell. When the new season picks up, Lucifer is still down under; however, as EW broke last month, Amenadiel will visit him on a matter of grave importance.

Lucifer returns for its bifurcated fifth and final season later this year.
