Music Discussion: Chris Rock talks Busta Rhymes New Album Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME!

not boring at all, just takes a certain amount of intellect to understand him. But I can see how a hyper Busta would appealing to someone like that.
Oh I understand him. At one point, I liked his 2nd album more. If Illmatic never surfaced, he would destroy Nas but dudes edges his peers at times. Prodigy is better than Nas.

Prodigy is better than Nas.

Wow...

Now THAT is a debate i thought I'd have one day.

I still think Prodigy keep in thoro is one of the greatest solo hip hop performances ever. Perfect encapsulation of that specific era style and ethos of rap.

Yes.. there definitely are many folk on the list. Not many have the catalog, lyrics, hits (underground and mainstream crossover), longevity, stage show and ability to murder most features like Busta though. He is dope and it appears that most of his peers respect him/his skills, but he doesn't have or get the same notoriety.

I am often the only person in a conversation that brings up Busta when talking about hip hop greats.

This man knows what he is talking about.

That joint got played on the RADIO IN THE MORNING WITH NO HOOK AND BARELY RHYMED.

and was one of the hardest most hip hop gangsta east coast record and the production was insane

And not by Havoc but the alchemist

Concurred. One of the hardest tracks ever that you rarely hear about.

to me there are VERY few tracks like that

in ANY GENRE

debut tracks to are different, so are pop SPECIFIC records etc...

but when an artist does what Prodigy and Alchemist did?

that is SPECIAL.

Redman got one

Jay Nas Method Snoop Outkast Killer Mike Black Though Busta ODB Bone Thugs Common Scarface Biggie Tupac Eminem Royce Kendrick

Just a singular persormnce that was NOT catering to ANY audience just hip hop in its purest sense.

I think Griselda is gonna be the next one to do it.

I was slow catching in to Griselda.. it does look like they're next up.

oh griselda is REAL as f*ck

just work your way backward

. Prodigy is better than Nas.

Whoa, now that is a HOT take. I sincerely disagree, but I respect going hard for your preference. ::tipmycap:

Busta is the epitome of a super emcee, especially of his generation. Dude went from backpack to chart toppin/Hip Pop, to gully/rudeboy--- all in one person, flipped back and forth over and over again. All while keeping amazing breath control, excellent articulation, and lyrical growth record to record. Prodigy is dope, but man he ain't leaping into top 20 category like Busta. Busta could make a Prodigy records, but no way Prodigy could EVER do what Busta has done with his flow, lyrics and STAGE presence.

Man they are so repetitive, but got damn that shit is 1995 grimey. My older, educated self wants to hate it, but every damn time I hear dude go "boom boom boom", I want to scream like I jist heard Reggie Noble scream lol. The beats are so ridiculous. RIP to DJ Shay, who just died.

It was an INTERESTING take

of course P (RIP) is NOT BETTER than Nasir

but He is saying if we take the BEST Mobb Deep and Prodigy records

and but them against Nas

I think it is MUCH closer than you would think.

again not BETTER than Nas but would spotlight JUST HOW DOPE Prodigy was.

I disagree on a few things

OVERALL I don't like the repetitive argument

cause it is SO MUCH more complicated than that.

We telling Adele stop making love songs?

That's their LANE.

Yeah there has to be GROWTH

but the SAME audience will not show enough patience with an artist if they don't LIKE the work and be the first to say

stick with what you know.

there is a GENRE of rap dealing with coke and drug dealing.

I'm fine with that.

but ESPECIALLY on their recent work?

It is so much more than that.

Conway and Benny especially have REALLY shown growth and allowed us to see their journey.

And I don;t WANT THEM TO STOP rapping about drug dealing.

Its like seeing a Scorsese, John Woo, Michael Bay movie

YOU KNOW WHAT YO GONNA GET.

and I'm fine

as long as its good.

Like you said yeah I am reliving my youth of the platinum era of Wu Tang Biggie Jay Z Nas Mobb Deep etc etc

but damn it why the hell not?

cause its not a COPY this is a unique twist evolution and homage.

Yeah, I can't disagree. Either way Buffalo is now the center od NY hip hop. They are on their Wu Tang come up, I am enjoying the ascension!!!

"Illmatic", "ATLiens" and "It Takes a Nation", remain my "greatest" hip hop albums..but nothing hits as hard, makes me visualize a place, scrunch my face, throw some shit and put on my big ass jeans and Tim's like "The Infamous". Man I never saw that album coming, IT IS PERFECT. So I get the argument. Busta is still the better emcee, especially on stage (which means a lot to me since I got to a lot of shows), but he doesn't have an album as good as "The Infamous".

nah, AZ is slept on way more
AZ not in the same class. Doesn't have the catelog Busta has

we had a thread on this...

Is Busta the greatest MC to never have a CLASSIC album?

that's the point. everyone knows who busta is, he has commercial success. how is he underrated?
AZ lyrical skills are slept on. He just didn't have mainstream hits.

the woman in your sig is fire.

 On the bitch.

AZ is kinda boring as someone else said. He has skills though. Busta seems to be forgotten for having done so much music. I think that was the point. AZ don't have enough of a resume for us to remember him like that. Busta does.
