The Woman In Red
1984

5/10

My DVR is programmed to record anything with actress ‘Judith Ivey’ in it. That’s cuz I’m waiting for a movie she stars in to come up titled ‘What Alice Found’.

I think I last saw this on VHS back in the late 80s. I watched it last night at home recorded from TCM.

It’s a cult classic mainly due to actress Kelly Le Brock making her film debut. The film has similarities to the Marilyn Monroe classic ‘The Seven Year Itch’, but goes into a different direction.

The humor is tongue-in-cheek around dialogue and visuals.

For the Thirsty, Kelly has one semi nude scene basically showing her from the rear.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, there is WM/WM Gay depiction with one of the supporting characters. Nothing is shown.

The film has a lot of well known actors who have passed on over the years which also makes the film memorable.

Stevie Wonder has a number of classic songs that were made for this film though out the film.

Synopsis

On his way to work, Teddy spots Charlotte, an incredibly beautiful Woman in Red. He really wants to meet her, but what would his wife say?

Threads
1984

8.5/10

This film came up in recommendations on tubi after watching the film ‘Panic In Year Zero’ that I watched and reviewed earlier in the thread. I watched this film last night on tubi at home.

It’s a anti-war film based around a total nuclear exchange between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.

The film starts with character introduction/development of the main characters/supporting characters within the first 30 minutes of the film. During this time, hostilities between the U.S./Russia is shown through TV news/radio/newspaper reports.

What’s interesting during the first 30 minutes and throughout the entire film are the onscreen graphics giving brief information on what is going currently in the film and information on concerning events pre/post nuclear exchange.

Around the 45 minute mark is when total nuclear exchange happens. This is a low budget made for TV film and I was impressed on how nuclear destruction was depicted. The film uses a mix of archival footage and VFX/SFX to show destruction.

After the exchange, the film moves into post-nuclear attack. This part of the film is the highlight. It does an amazing job of depicting nuclear destruction on a level I have never seen in these type of films. Other films I have seen make it seem post-nuclear destruction is no big deal and somewhat ‘Exciting’. This film does not do that. The realism in this film is close to ‘Horror’.

Without going too much into details, this film makes it clear that if there is a total nuclear exchange, it will take this planet back to a time before humans came up with the concept of ‘Civilization’ and acting like animals. The film has a grainy look which effectively adds to the destruction level.

The last hour of the film spans about 10+ years post nuclear destruction.

After watching it, I looked into and this film is critically acclaimed. It also scared the British population into forcing the U.K. government into nuclear reduction. I also read that the cast/crew had some psychological trauma while making it.

There are currently plans to make a remake of this film. There is also a documentary on the making of this film that I plan on watching at some point.

Overall, I went into this film not expecting much, but in the end was highly impressed. I highly recommend watching it. After watching it, you will make the decision that if there is a large nuclear exchange pending, you do not want to be a survivor of it.

Synopsis
A dramatic account of the potential medical, economic, social, and environmental consequences of a nuclear war in Britain, it follows two families in Sheffield as a confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union erupts into war and a general nuclear exchange between NATO and the Warsaw Pact.

The Strangers – Chapter 2
2025

5/10

I watched this film this afternoon at home on HBO MAX.

I watched and reviewed the first film earlier in the thread.

The movie picks up immediately after the ending of the first film with the main character recovering in the hospital.

It immediately proceeds into SHTF quickly with the main character Maya being pursued by the killers.

This film gives more insight on the people in the Diner. The film throughout gives a backstory on two of the killers when they were children.

Suspense is a little better than the first being that Maya is chased through different locations in the film.

There is a small twist involving some of the supporting characters.

The film ends leading directly into Part 3.

There is a mid-credits trailer showing scenes from Part 3. Part 3 is not on HBO MAX at this time, I will watch it when it’s available.

Synopsis

The film follows Maya after she survives being stabbed by the strangers and discovers that they are still hunting and trying to kill her.

The Prophecy 3: The Ascent

2000

4.5/10

I stumbled upon this film on Paramount+ and I was never aware of it. It was not released in theaters and went straight to VOD/DVD. I rewatched and reviewed the first two films recently to refresh.

I watched this film last night at home on Paramount+.

The film takes place about 20+ years from the last film. Gabriel is still alive and is still a human. Over the years as a human, he has developed empathy for Earth/human and looks at humans differently from how he was portrayed in the first two films.

The war amongst Angels is still ongoing.

The film follows the same premise as the first two films with the Angels hunting a new presence that can ruin their plans. Because of this, the plot brings the story down.

The highlight of the film is Christopher Walken with his acting. He has a commanding presence with his style in all projects he does.

The film has a definite conclusion officially ending the trilogy around Gabriel.

Gabriel, the Coroner and a waitress from earlier films are the only 3 in the same roles throughout the trilogy.

Synopsis

Danyael (Dave Buzzotta), a half-angel hybrid, learns he must stop the apocalyptic rise of Pyriel (Scott Cleverdon). Gabriel shifts from a ruthless antagonist to a funny, redeemed human protector.

Bradley Cooper To Star As Duke In Paramount’s New ‘G.I. Joe’ Movie From Director Danny McBride

…McBride is directing the pic, having landed the job after his was one of a handful of pitches Paramount looked at earlier this year. McBride, who is celebrated for his distinctive voice and creative vision, also is writing the screenplay with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri.

Once McBride landed the job, he had a wish list of actors he wanted to star, with Cooper at the top. Given Cooper’s busy schedule, which includes writing, directing and starring opposite Margot Robbie in the upcoming Ocean’s prequel, there was no guarantee he would be able to commit to G.I. Joe. But after reading the script and meeting with McBride, he knew wanted to star in the pic, and negotiations began in recent weeks...

Interesting.

Cooper also came in for a 1-episode guest spot on McBride's series, The Righteous Gemstones.

Knock at the Cabin
2023

4.5/10

I watched this film this afternoon at home on Netflix.

I’m a fan of M. Night Shyamalan’s films cuz he is always on a Rod Serling ‘Twilight Zone’ vibe with his stuff. Unfortunately, a lot of his films twist fall flat.

This is a apocalyptic, thriller with minimal suspense and predictable thrills.

There really isn’t much to say. The ending somewhat fell flat, but it is interesting too a degree. I think the intention of the film is too get you to think…that didn’t happen with me.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, there is a WM/WM couple. Nothing is shown with them.

Dave Bautista’s performance is the only highlight of the movie. The film had potential, but fell flat.

Synopsis

In the film, a family is vacationing at a remote cabin when they are suddenly held hostage by four strangers who ask them to do something unimaginable.

Bautista has definitely proven himself as an actor. Agreed - he was good in it, as was the little girl. She was believable.

Backrooms
2026

6.5/10

I watched this film last night on HBO MAX.

HBO MAX has a ‘Backrooms’ special presentation before the film starts with their logo.

Since the beginning of the year, I watched the videos made by creator Kane Parsons to get familiar with his work. There are a ton of copycat videos out there.

The film does a good job depicting the Backrooms the way they look in the film. Chiwetel Ejiofor was perfectly cast as ‘Clark’ cuz of normal facial expressions of ‘WTF’. His performance adds to the suspense of the film.

The film unlike the YouTube videos plays out like a psychological thriller with the main character and main supporting character.

One of the highlights of the film is it’s filmed using the same techniques as legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. You don’t really see film makers today mimic his style like how this film was done.

The film has a definite ending, but brings up a number of questions that hopefully will be answered in the sequel. The sequel has been approved and is in early development at this time.

Looking forward to it.

Synopsis

In the film, Clark, a furniture store owner, and his therapist Mary discover a dimension of seemingly endless liminal spaces accessed through the store's basement.
