Yo. Am I trippin? Or do we not have any discussion up about the YOU PEOPLE flick new to Netflix?

If it’s a stand alone thread I’m not seeing it anymore in my searches

if not - I caught it so I’m here for the chit chat lol

Partially Pleasing People

PRAISE: The cast definitely uplifts this movie about A new couple and their families reckon with modern love amid culture clashes, societal expectations and generational differences.
I really enjoyed parts of the story particularly about the subject matter it focuses on the clash between cultures and different religions in fact I wanted more of that. I've always found it interesting when people of different faiths and upbringings get together. How will it work? How religious are you? Where are your true boundaries? All of the aforementioned is spoken of in this movie. I even enjoyed the awkward, tone death moments the different characters found themselves in. I thought Jonah Hill and Lauren London had good chemistry which was a nice surprise and their courtship in the film definitely helped.
Eddie Murphy was good as a soon as you see him you know he's going to have a problem with the union between his daughter Amira (London) and Ezra (Hill) by the way he is first presented in the film as a man who chafes against change. As Ezra’s parents, Shelley (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Arnold (David Duchovny) did a good job.I did like the drop in moments from some actors and im ashamed to say i thought a couple of them had passed away. Half of the humor worked for me it was stinging and salty. I appreciated the film not going into full slapstick mode.

PROBLEMS: The script by Hill and Kenya Barris is definitely overdone at times and lacks tonal balance. Some things are touched on about race and being fascinated with black culture but veering off from fully understanding it and I wish the movie had explored that more but of course there is a rush to get to the movies ultra predictable ending. The cuts to the film are kind of off putting as if I was watching a sitcom and it's like hey the commercial break is over.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7

Dumb, Overdone, Unfunny, Cliche, Stereotypical, Redundant, Regurgitated, Uncreative

Eddie, Julia Louise Dreyfus, Sara Jay and Jonah are too good for this. This shit was bad. Angry black man and dumb and naive white people. Nia Long was wasted. They had no chemistry, because it wasn't believable New New would ever fuck with Jonah Hill. Even a chunky Lauren London.

Kenya Barris sucks. He should never direct again. Was this shit made for TV with the cuts of scenes made for commercials?

The Xzibit shit throughout the movie :smh: and it even had Andrew Schulz in it.

The best part of this was the music, sneakers and the credits. This shit was awful and he epitome of wasted talent.

Damn it, I think I even chuckled once or twice from House Party. Wait, Sara Jay with the Mo line on the plane did make me chuckle.

Did you notice they strategically tried to hide Lauren London's body throughout the whole movie?

It was evident by her baggy clothes and face

I saw a pic of her at the premier and she looked good though. I guess she got herself together. I wonder when it was filmed.

Asked my pops what he's been watching lately ...

With his girlfriend ... the following movies ...

- YOU PEOPLE - meh - wouldn't watch it again

- THE DRY - pretty good - he had asked me to save him a copy a few months back

- EMILY THE CRIMINAL - quite enjoyed it. Told him it was a small budget movie worth seeing. He wants to watch more of Aubrey Plaza's work

Solo ... the following series ...

- SAS: ROGUE HEROES - he really enjoyed it

- THE RIG - He's about 3 episodes into it so far ... likes the way it's shot

- FLEISHMAN IS IN TROUBLE - He's just before the halfway point of the season ... enjoying it ... he's always liked Eisenberg's acting ... finds him believable

Finally starting to clear my saved stuff on Hulu before all this new stuff they plan on dropping soon.

This is a psychological horror flick whose premise has been done a number of times over the past 20 years.

It’s a somewhat slow burn film, but does just enough to keep you interested in what is going on.

The entire film mainly takes place in a reinforced bathroom in a family home where they take shelter from an incoming storm, possibly a tornado.

The film kicks in right from the start. There isn’t anything at the beginning dealing with character/story development. So if you suffer from Movie ADHD, this film is for you.

A few times thru-out the film, there are flashback sequences played dealing with the daughter. Pay attention because what happens with her character is part of the story.

I’m not gonna spoil it. But this is one of those films that ends with the viewer interpretation of what finally happens. Anyone who watches it will have their own theory on how it ends. Nobody is wrong or right. So when the film ends and you are sitting there going “WTF?”, that is your cue that you weren’t paying attention to what was going on.

There is a little graphic violence, not much to get excited over.

Synopsis

Seeking shelter from a storm, a family finds itself trapped for days with no sign of rescue and untold evils lurking just beyond the walls.

Knock At the Cabin

Should I have answered?

PRAISE: I always feel M. Night Shyamalan lays down a good foundation for his stories that draw me in and hang on every word. This time the story is about a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand they make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse.
I enjoyed the performances and David Bautista was definitely the standout. Some of the visuals and close up shots definitely added to the intensity of the film. I also enjoyed the biblical themes in the film such as the world needing a perfect sacrifice. My interest was held enough as both groups try to convince each other about what's real. I definitely questioned myself about what kind of sacrifice I would make if I were in the situation like this.

PROBLEMS: The movie is definitely repetitive at times and feels one note.
I sat there hoping for something more intriguing and involving to happen the ending felt basic to me because really the way the story lines up there was only 2 places for it to go.I guess I was looking for something a bit more suspenseful.

The NEW Robocop (2014). I cut that shit off. I didn't finish it and I deleted it from the hard drive it was so bad

The first one wasn't great, but it's iconic and it's corniness and I'll buy that for a dollar. The reboot was just terrible.

Some movies like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy or The Good Shepherd are boring or slow, RoboCop was just bad
