Definitely in the red

PRAISE : In this movie about an Interpol agent attempts to hunt down and capture the world's most wanted art thief.
I have to give them credit for trying to switch things up a bit when it comes to movies like this. Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson are basically doing what they always do and I can't fault them for that because I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing from them in this flick.
Gal Gadot does ok at least she looks like she's having fun and I appreciated the long and lingering shots of her.
I really liked Ritu Arya as the no nonsense Inspector Das. Some of the set designs were impressive.
There's some cool stunts and action sequences. I was shocked that I laughed a lot at the jokes and one liners.

PROBLEMS: Not only was the plot very predictable but there's the addition of characters spelling out what's going to happen a few minutes later.
Most of this plays out the same way it does in so many other caper/action flicks.
This has been hyped as Netflix's most expensive movie and I kept thinking 160 to 200 million doesn't buy what it used to.
There are a few things they could have done to make this flick better and that's the true shame of it all.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 6

QueenPins had some good moments but it really ran out of steam in the last half hour and its about 15 minutes to long but Bebe Rexha is so friggin cute in this !! Scale of 1 to 10 a 7

Rexha = doggystylable.

Do you think Queenpins would have worked better with a more serious, dramatic tone? Saw it earlier this fall & didn't care too much for the lightheartedness.

Ghostbusters Afterlife

Who you gonna call......

PRAISE: I still remember sitting in the theater watching the first Ghostbusters with my father, and that's what Ghostbusters Afterlife is about...memories with a story about a single mother and her two children move to a new town, they soon discover they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
The cast including : Finn Wolfhard, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, and McKenna Gracedoes well.
Grace She is the standout and I was amazed at how she was able to capture some of the late great Harold Ramis's mannerisms.
I'm glad they kept the kids in a new town cliches to a minimum.
Sure there are some funny jokes, one liners, fun ghosts, and great SFX but at the core of this movie is a great story about family and sacrifice.
There are some really nice touches and tributes to the original cast and movies.
I'm not sure I'd there will be more Ghostbusters movies but I hope they land in the capable hands of Jason Reitman.
If you can stick around for the 2 after credits scenes.

PROBLEMS: The film definitely starts to lose its originality in its last 30 minutes.
There's an odd laid back reaction some of the characters have to other worldly situations.
This is the third movie I've seen this year that has a simple one sentence answer or explanation for something that I just couldn't get on board with.
It bothered me that situations that were EXTREMELY unforgettable had mainly become just footnotes.

She would be fun indeed.

Regarding Queenpins ... I think it would have worked well if it were more similar to the I, Tonya movie. Balancing the comedic with the dramatic and serious. Only difference though is there were some award nominated and winning performances in I, Tonya. Plus they were dealing with abuse in that one (the relationships with mother & spouse respectively). They had darker material to draw upon.

Watched the Kevin Garnett: Anything is Possible documentary from Showtime / SHO Sports yesterday. They have done a good job with their sports docs in recent years (basketball, boxing, etc). Really enjoyed The Four Kings (Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard) 4-part docuseries earlier this year too.

Garnett's doc' did a good job balancing his time at Farragut Academy (HS), and on to the pros with the Wolves & Celtics.

How things played out for him & Marbury in Minnesota. How him, Pierce, and Allen turned things around for the Celtics. Earning his spot in the Hall of Fame.

He's an intense, driven and energetic presence, so it comes across well in doc' format.

The documentary's title is a call back to his elation at winning the NBA title, and his legendary quote.

If you suffer from Movie ADHD, don’t waste your time reading forward or watching this film.

This is a Sci-Fi Drama that goes more into a character drama with Sci-Fi as the backdrop.

The premise has been done a million times in films, but its usually based around a SHTF scenario with folks running around like Mad Max. This film deals with human desperation but at a minimum and is not exploited.

It’s based in the not to distant future and the technology seen is pretty much what we may see within the next 20 years. The film is based around the Los Angeles area and you can see they live in a mild mannered dystopian society as result to the issues going on around. Not much is given on why humans are leaving Earth, some information is given within the first 5 minutes of the film.

The main character backstory is given in bits and pieces thru-out the film, which should give you a understanding on why he makes his decision in the final scene.

This is a slow burn movie, even though it is Sci-Fi, don’t go into it looking for spaceships, aliens and laser blasters. If you are familiar and enjoy the Joaquin Phoenix movie “HER”, this movie has the same flow.

I saw it on the free streaming platform tubi.

Synopsis

In the near future, a man struggles to find his estranged wife before their visa to emigrate to an off-world colony expires.

This is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time. I love cute weird love stories. I'm really a softie

I'm watching this movie as I recover from cooking Thanksgiving dinner - 11 cheese macaroni and cheese, turkey soaking in brown sugar and apple juice overnight, homemade cornbread stuffing and mashed red potatoes

I'm absolutely in love with Rachel McAdams. She just seems so naturally normal. Pretty but not too pretty and if she is too pretty she doesn't know it

Not many white women turn my head, but she's one of them

The movie came out in 2013, About Time with Rachel McAdams. I'm not going to say anything about it because I don't want to ruin it. It's based in the UK so they speak differently than we do

if you're married or dating , or you just want to see a good movie you should check this one out

I AGREE also some actors just had bit parts like Paul Rust i thought his role would have been bigger

.............But not broken

PRAISE : Halle Berry not only makes some impressive displays here and there in her feature film directorial debut but i was very impressed by her physical changes and the rigorous workout routines in the film and off screen. The story : Jackie Justice, a disgraced MMA fighter who has failed at the one thing she's ever been good at - fighting. When 6-year-old Manny, the son she walked out on years ago, returns to her doorstep, Jackie has to conquer her own demons.
Also quite impressive are Danny Boyd Jr Jackie's 6-year-old son, Manny. The 6 year old is laser focused and then some,so young and so unflinching i was amazed.
Sheila Atim, who plays Jackie's trainer, Buddhakan turns in a tough as nails but soft around the edges performance.Adriane Lenox as Angel McQueen Jackie's mom also impressive she definitely gave me flash backs of women i knew from the neighborhood.
Always great to see the talents of Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Shamier Anderson.
The story definitely hits the right emotional chords at times .It's gritty and edgy as we go from underground fights to the more glitzier but still brutal MMA fighting rings. The fight sequences are intense and rousing and if DC/WB comics is looking to cast Giganta one day look no further than Amanda Nunes !!

PROBLEMS : One thread in the story is ultra predictable 30 minutes into the film. Some of the fight sequences could have been a bit tighter because i could actually see some of the pulled punches. Definitely some cliched turns in the story.

Looking forward to checking it out. Reading the articles in recent years about her putting the work in. The fighters who are affiliated with the movie. Seeing Berry herself at some of the events in recent years. I can respect that.

I enjoyed it. I think the acting and setting carried it, because it could have gone downhill or been very bad. It kept me intrigued and interested. I'm not even that big on these types of movies, but I enjoyed this one. They tried more than they typically do with psychological thrillers.

I was never big on Ghostbusters and I never even finished part two. But I enjoyed this, it was fun. It didn't take itself serious and had a lot of nostalgia. It was beating you over the head at times.

One of my favorite movies of the year. Biography movies are normally paint by numbers, but this one had more heart and feeling. I don't think I ever got over it being Will Smith or his accent, but Richard Williams Louisiana accent was so strong I can see it.

This film is based on a video game, I have no idea what the video game is about, and don't care, but this movie was damn good.

This falls into the definition of "Mindless Entertainment". If you looking for something on the level of Michael Crichton with a deep, in-depth story to get you to think, you ain't gonna find it here.

The movie starts off from the beginning and continues to the end with enough action to keep you glued to the screen. If you need to get up to go to the bathroom or refill a drink, you will put it on pause or rewind. There ain't no character or story development for you to be concerned about or take away from the momentum of the film.

I was surprised on how the SFX/VFX looked with the creatures. I was expecting something like what you see on the Sci-Fi channel, but this flick was on the level of a Jurassic Park flick.

For the Thirsty, Megan Good co-stars, she is completely covered up, so don't get yourself excited.

For the InCell cats, Milla Jovovich is the main star running around like Rambo.

And yes, you have to watch without applying common sense, applied science and physics and military accuracy.

They left the film off for a sequel, there also is a mid-credit scene.

Me, the wife and my two teenage sons watched it last night and enjoyed it. I watched it on STARZ as part of the free preview weekend going on now until 11/28/2021.

Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone,
1990/2020

8/10

This film was originally released in 1990 as "The Godfather Part 3". The current title of this film is what Coppola wanted back in 1990, but the studio refused. It was re-cut and remastered by Francis Ford Copploa and released on digital/Blu-Ray in 2020.

The 2020 version is what I am making the post on. It's been a long time since I watched "The Godfather Part 3" and I probably should have rewatched it to take note of the difference.

From what I saw in this version, it stands out as close as the first movie with the story mainly revolving around history repeating itself.

Al Pacino performance is on top as usual. Dude never disappoints in anything he does.

Being the film was made in 1990, some of the major characters are still alive to this day. It would be nice if Coppola does another movie showing where the Corleone family is today or at least 10 to 15 years from this movie.

I saw it on Showtime as part of the free preview going on now until 11/28/2021.

Synopsis

As Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) ages, he finds that being the head of the Corleone crime family isn't getting any easier. He wants his family out of the Mafia, but the mob kingpin (Eli Wallach) isn't eager to let one of the most powerful and wealthy families go legit. Making matters even worse is Michael's nephew, Vincent (Andy Garcia). Not only does Vincent want a piece of the Corleone family's criminal empire, but he also wants Michael's daughter, Mary (Sofia Coppola).

Checked this one out yesterday. Wanted to have something on in the background which was a quick watch. This one's just over an hour and 20 mins. Takes place almost entirely at the toy store. Small budget. The store's sort of a modest cross between Toys-R-Us & Wal-Mart. Thought the make-up on the zombies was pretty well done, all things considering. It's a mindless watch, if you're interested.

Black Friday is an American horror comedy film written by Andy Greskoviak and directed by Casey Tebo. It stars Devon Sawa, Ivana Baquero, Ryan Lee, Stephen Peck, Michael Jai White, and Bruce Campbell (who serves as producer).

Several employees at a big-box toy store are infected by an alien substance while preparing for Black Friday. On the day of, and after customers are allowed inside, the remaining employees discover that the infected have turned into zombies ...

I'm not sure if it was meant to be funny and campy, but Jared Leto. Dude is pure comedy. Every scene is comedy relief.

It's weird, because it's like he's doing satire and I don't know if it fits in or it's on purpose, and it makes surrounding discussions(Jeremy Irons and Al Pacino) about him hilarious. I laughed more during this than a lot of comedies. It's like Lady GaGa and Adam Driver are in a serious movie surrounded by a comedy.

The pacing and time jumps were weird, because at times it will get boring with pointless scenes and seem to have weird edits and then it will jump...it's just over...and you see it could have included some important moments.

It was enjoyable, but I can't say it was good.

Thanks for the review. My dad and his gf want to see it, and he asked for me to save it for him in the future.

They most recently watched the Bond movie. They're planning on watching all the Bourne movies in the months ahead.

Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin
2021

I had heard that this flick got the green light back in 2019.

Because of the pandemic, I assumed production got delayed and pushed out.

I just saw on TV that the film was released on October 29, 2021 and only on the Paramount+ streaming service. No theatrical release.

I did a search and nothing came up anywhere on the forum.

Anybody see it?

Synopsis

Margot, a young woman who was abandoned by her mother as a baby, travels to a secluded Amish community with a documentary film crew seeking answers about her mother and extended family.

Kingly performance ! !

PRAISE: Will Smith gives a wonderful and strong performance as Richard Williams a father determined to write his two daughters, Venus and Serena, into history.
I'm so glad that this is a warts and all biopic.
Richard wasn't a saint but he is a loving and nurturing father. He wanted more for his children and nothing was going to get in his way. Not gangs, working long nights, racism or butting heads with various tennis coaches and I thought the film brought out the aforementioned beautifully. The supporting cast including :
Aunjanue Ellis, Jon Bernthal, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Tony Goldwyn, Mikayla Lashae Bartholomew, Daniele Lawson, and Layla Crawford
are all top notch. I was very moved by some stand out scenes. Some are humorous some are heavily dramatic but the fact is the film actually made me feel something. I love when performances leap off the screen. There were some things I had forgotten and never knew about the game of tennis and thankfully the film gave nice lessons and helped me to recall.
Sure Richard's ego got in the way sometimes and it got to him the way he may be looked at by the public and the media but in the end it all came from wanting more and love and the two are not bad things at all.

PROBLEMS: NONE
