I couldn't dig this one...it was OK...brah
That's a good point. Some of the stories definitely hit better than others. I would have liked seeing a whole movie just about his character.
I couldn't dig this one...it was OK...brah
Red Notice
Definitely in the red
PRAISE : In this movie about an Interpol agent attempts to hunt down and capture the world's most wanted art thief.
I have to give them credit for trying to switch things up a bit when it comes to movies like this. Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson are basically doing what they always do and I can't fault them for that because I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing from them in this flick.
Gal Gadot does ok at least she looks like she's having fun and I appreciated the long and lingering shots of her.
I really liked Ritu Arya as the no nonsense Inspector Das. Some of the set designs were impressive.
There's some cool stunts and action sequences. I was shocked that I laughed a lot at the jokes and one liners.
PROBLEMS: Not only was the plot very predictable but there's the addition of characters spelling out what's going to happen a few minutes later.
Most of this plays out the same way it does in so many other caper/action flicks.
This has been hyped as Netflix's most expensive movie and I kept thinking 160 to 200 million doesn't buy what it used to.
There are a few things they could have done to make this flick better and that's the true shame of it all.

Rexha = doggystylable.
Do you think Queenpins would have worked better with a more serious, dramatic tone? Saw it earlier this fall & didn't care too much for the lightheartedness.
oh yeah Rexha...those hips...damn
yes it needed something and like i mentioned before the real life outcome was far more severe but they wanted to keep things super light
Watched the Kevin Garnett: Anything is Possible documentary from Showtime / SHO Sports yesterday. They have done a good job with their sports docs in recent years (basketball, boxing, etc). Really enjoyed The Four Kings (Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard) doc' earlier this year too.
Garnett's doc' did a good job balancing his time at Farragut Academy (HS), and on to the pros with the Wolves & Celtics.
How things played out for him & Marbury in Minnesota. How him, Pierce, and Allen turned things around for the Celtics. Earning his spot in the Hall of Fame.
He's an intense, driven and energetic presence, so it comes across well in doc' format.
The documentary's title is a call back to his elation at winning the NBA title, and his legendary quote.
Watched it too...Brought back memories of when he played at Farragut with Ronnie Fields.
Nothing but highlights
She would be fun indeed.
Regarding Queenpins ... I think it would have worked well if it were more similar to the I, Tonya movie. Balancing the comedic with the dramatic and serious. Only difference though is there were some award nominated and winning performances in I, Tonya. Plus they were dealing with abuse in that one (the relationships with mother & spouse respectively). They had darker material to draw upon.
BRUISED
.............But not broken
PRAISE : Halle Berry not only makes some impressive displays here and there in her feature film directorial debut but i was very impressed by her physical changes and the rigorous workout routines in the film and off screen. The story : Jackie Justice, a disgraced MMA fighter who has failed at the one thing she's ever been good at - fighting. When 6-year-old Manny, the son she walked out on years ago, returns to her doorstep, Jackie has to conquer her own demons.
Also quite impressive are Danny Boyd Jr Jackie's 6-year-old son, Manny. The 6 year old is laser focused and then some,so young and so unflinching i was amazed.
Sheila Atim, who plays Jackie's trainer, Buddhakan turns in a tough as nails but soft around the edges performance.Adriane Lenox as Angel McQueen Jackie's mom also impressive she definitely gave me flash backs of women i knew from the neighborhood.
Always great to see the talents of Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Shamier Anderson.
The story definitely hits the right emotional chords at times .It's gritty and edgy as we go from underground fights to the more glitzier but still brutal MMA fighting rings. The fight sequences are intense and rousing and if DC/WB comics is looking to cast Giganta one day look no further than Amanda Nunes !!
PROBLEMS : One thread in the story is ultra predictable 30 minutes into the film. Some of the fight sequences could have been a bit tighter because i could actually see some of the pulled punches. Definitely some cliched turns in the story.

Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone,
1990/2020
8/10
This film was originally released in 1990 as "The Godfather Part 3". The current title of this film is what Coppola wanted back in 1990, but the studio refused. It was re-cut and remastered by Francis Ford Copploa and released on digital/Blu-Ray in 2020.
The 2020 version is what I am making the post on. It's been a long time since I watched "The Godfather Part 3" and I probably should have rewatched it to take note of the difference.
From what I saw in this version, it stands out as close as the first movie with the story mainly revolving around history repeating itself.
Al Pacino performance is on top as usual. Dude never disappoints in anything he does.
Being the film was made in 1990, some of the major characters are still alive to this day. It would be nice if Coppola does another movie showing where the Corleone family is today or at least 10 to 15 years from this movie.
I saw it on Showtime as part of the free preview going on now until 11/28/2021.
Synopsis
As Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) ages, he finds that being the head of the Corleone crime family isn't getting any easier. He wants his family out of the Mafia, but the mob kingpin (Eli Wallach) isn't eager to let one of the most powerful and wealthy families go legit. Making matters even worse is Michael's nephew, Vincent (Andy Garcia). Not only does Vincent want a piece of the Corleone family's criminal empire, but he also wants Michael's daughter, Mary (Sofia Coppola).
I'm not sure if it was meant to be funny and campy, but Jared Leto. Dude is pure comedy. Every scene is comedy relief.
It's weird, because it's like he's doing satire and I don't know if it fits in or it's on purpose, and it makes surrounding discussions(Jeremy Irons and Al Pacino) about him hilarious. I laughed more during this than a lot of comedies. It's like Lady GaGa and Adam Driver are in a serious movie surrounded by a comedy.
The pacing and time jumps were weird, because at times it will get boring with pointless scenes and seem to have weird edits and then it will jump...it's just over...and you see it could have included some important moments.
It was enjoyable, but I can't say it was good.
Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin
2021
I had heard that this flick got the green light back in 2019.
Because of the pandemic, I assumed production got delayed and pushed out.
I just saw on TV that the film was released on October 29, 2021 and only on the Paramount+ streaming service. No theatrical release.
I did a search and nothing came up anywhere on the forum.
Anybody see it?
Synopsis
Margot, a young woman who was abandoned by her mother as a baby, travels to a secluded Amish community with a documentary film crew seeking answers about her mother and extended family.
King Richard
Kingly performance ! !
PRAISE: Will Smith gives a wonderful and strong performance as Richard Williams a father determined to write his two daughters, Venus and Serena, into history.
I'm so glad that this is a warts and all biopic.
Richard wasn't a saint but he is a loving and nurturing father. He wanted more for his children and nothing was going to get in his way. Not gangs, working long nights, racism or butting heads with various tennis coaches and I thought the film brought out the aforementioned beautifully. The supporting cast including :
Aunjanue Ellis, Jon Bernthal, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Tony Goldwyn, Mikayla Lashae Bartholomew, Daniele Lawson, and Layla Crawford
are all top notch. I was very moved by some stand out scenes. Some are humorous some are heavily dramatic but the fact is the film actually made me feel something. I love when performances leap off the screen. There were some things I had forgotten and never knew about the game of tennis and thankfully the film gave nice lessons and helped me to recall.
Sure Richard's ego got in the way sometimes and it got to him the way he may be looked at by the public and the media but in the end it all came from wanting more and love and the two are not bad things at all.
PROBLEMS: NONE
