HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A gunman in a wheelchair shot a man who was loading his daughter in a vehicle outside of a 24 Hour Fitness on Father's Day afternoon in midtown Houston.
According to police, the shooting happened in the 3700 block of Louisiana at around 1 p.m. Sunday.
Police said the suspect, Joey Harper, 27, rolled behind the 39-year-old victim, who had just left the gym and was placing his daughter in the backseat of his vehicle.
Harper was in a mask when police said he shot the man. The victim knocked the suspect out from the wheelchair, but Harper was able to get back in and leave.
A witness managed to follow the suspect three blocks away. He was arrested when he was trying to leave in a friend's vehicle, police said.
Harper was arrested on a charge of felon in possession of a weapon. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
