NYPD officials are searching for a man suspected of pushing a Queens father onto the subway tracks where he was fatally struck by an oncoming train on Monday.

The New York Post reports the victim, identified as 58-year-old Ki Suk Han, was attempting to "protect fellow straphangers from a deranged man" at the 49th Street station when he was suddenly shoved onto the tracks by the suspect.

Bystanders frantically waved and yelled, trying to halt the oncoming Q train from hitting Han, but their attempts proved futile.

"He got caught between the train and the edge of the platform," saidWilliam Van Alstyne, who witnessed the horrifying scene. "He got caught between the train and the edge of the platform. He got dragged. You could see the trail of blood from where he got hit to where he stopped.”

A Post freelance photographer happened to be on the platform and captured the moment just before Han's death. In the photo you can see Han trying to hoist himself up onto the platform, as the train comes barreling towards him. Umar Abbasi says he attempted to warn the train conductor by flashing his camera, but to no avail.

Before the incident, onlookers say the suspect and Han exchanged heated words.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said the suspect was believed to have been "talking to himself" and most likely instigated a fight with Han.

"At least one witness felt that the aggressor was emotionally disturbed," Browne said.

Han was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He leaves behind a wife and college-aged daughter.

Officials released this image of the man believed to be the attacker who pushed Han:

Subway rules of engagement.

1. Mind your business.

2. Mind who's around you.

3. Stay away from the edge until your train comes.

either way RIP :smh:

Re: Man gets pushed to his death in the subway of NY - that's only part of the outrag

there is room under the platform where he is standing
there is room between the opposite tracks
there is room under the train
This is the type of thing you have to be mentally prepared for and just react.

Re: Man gets pushed to his death in the subway of NY - that's only part of the outrag

That train looks about 20 feet away from the guy and it's barreling towards him. No way that photographer gets to him in time. And that's not even to mention the guy could have panicked and pulled the photographer down with him. It's not like no one was trying to help the guy. The article said, "Bystanders frantically waved and yelled, trying to halt the oncoming Q train from hitting Han, but their attempts proved futile."

Also the photographer "happened to be on the platform and captured the moment just before Han's death". Dude said he was flashing his camera at the conductor while everyone else was flagging the conductor down. I would assume the reason none of them tried to pull him up is because the train was coming too fast. The outrage should be targeted at the lunatic who pushed the guy. Not at the people who chose self-preservation over a likely tragic heroic bid.

You can't tell these brothers shit. If they were there, they would have miraculously transformed into superman and rescued the poor fella.

This.

By the time he took the pic, he would have only had enough time to get to the edge of the platform, maybe grab the guy, and get his own head and arms knocked off.

BUT... you can dive between the wooden tracks. Sure it is wet and disgusting down there, but you will be alive under the train... or if you have a second longer you can get inbetween both tracks, and just not move. The guy had options.

Turns out the photographer did try to help, but couldn't lift the guy so he ran toward the train flashing his camera lights to flag down the conductor. He just happened to get the shot of the train about to hit the guy, because he was already taking pictures for a different project when the push happened. But, here's the other thing: the "victim" picked a fight with the guy who pushed him. You can see in this video the pusher pleading with the victim to leave him alone before the shove. Not saying the guy deserved it, but it certainly refutes the initial story about a mumbling deranged niggas shoving unsuspecting dude in from of a train. Even the victim's wife said he left the house drunk and angry after they fought. Tragic shit, either way. :smh:

The victim was drunk and belligerent. Otherwise, he might have considered those options. Hell of a way to go.

Disappointment can be targeted at both. You try. That's the point. You try.

Watch the video report. He tried. There's nothing to be disappointed in the photographer about. Why, because he didn't try hard enough to get himself killed, too? :dunno:

You leave the man alone, and if you DON'T, you damn sure don't stand inches from him with hands in pocket and back to train......That's just all kinds of FAIL......:smh::smh:

The photographer didn't shoot this footage. He was on the opposite side, oblivious to this exchange. He didn't snap the pics until he heard the thud turned and saw the guy. Basically the New York Post is doing a shoddy job unfolding this story. It's as though they rushed it to print half-cocked and figured they'd just update the details as they go.

Everybody is a hero on this bitch.

On another note, it's fucked up but had he left dude alone per his wishes then he wouldn't have found himself stuck between da train tracks. :dunno:

Look - as a NY'er - and subway rider, and amateur photographer, my first reaction wouldn't have been to take that shot...

cmon son -thats bullshit - photog took the shot with the train +30 feet away.... when did he try to lift the man? also dude wasn't flashing the operator, he had his camera on full bursts, that's the only way he has shutter aperture and iso right enough on the fly to get this shot with the train not going soft or having any blur... especially with the typical poor lighting of the subway - he said that bs to make it seem he wasn't taking shots the whole time... the photographer didn't give a fuck, hope he enjoys his $$$

Right here!

Or hold on to the wall, by the 3rd rail.

You do realize there were witnesses that corroborated the story, right? Your conjecture is irrelevant. :hmm:

If this poor man would've just laid down where he was pictured sitting he'd be alive. There's like 3 feet between the bed of the tracks and the train... many have fallen and laid in that bed while the train has passed above. Don't y'all NY'ers remember the brother who jumped down onto the track to help someone up only to realize they were both going to get hit. He forced the person he was helping to lay between the tracks and the train passed over top of both of them... he was lauded as a hero. Or like someone else said he could've ducked under the platform. Damn shame... hell of a way to go. He really should've left that man alone; he was warned.

As someone else mentioned above you are indeed taught this as kids when dealing with the NYC transit system.

Each of these options vary from station to station, there is a train on the express track already so he could've stood in the area between the tracks.

Some platforms don't have enough space underneath as well as some trackbeds & wall cutouts, the best option is between tracks NOT the trackbed or going under the train!

It's fucked up but has anyone tried to lift a drunk person, they have absolutely zero coordination.

Absolutely NO ONE can stop or slow down a train entering a station, the best thing to do is hit the intercom to the token booth & alert the token clerk, a train has too much mass to stop by somebody waving or doing something on the platform.

I don't know what's worse though, the photographer stepping back to take the pic or the Rupert Murdoch owned NY Post making the picture of someone about to die its cover.:smh:

Re: Man gets pushed to his death in the subway of NY - that's only part of the outrag

First .. until you're in the situation, you don't know how you're going to react.

Second, not everybody is built to react, some people freeze.

R.I.P.

Being from NYC, i'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

Right.

only in the NY Post... or sourced from the Post, so if you're simple enough to believe reporting from the NY Post... oh well

Also- the average person would have no clue what he was doing, all they would see are flashes... a photographer could look at the picture and guess pretty much what happened, but the exif data would tell the real tale.

Yeah, I figured he either didn't know about that or was overwhelmed with fear.
