A lot has happened since November 7, when Des Moines police officers shot and killed Rosie, a 200-pound Newfoundland dog that had escaped the yard of her owners, Deirdre and Charles Wright. A memorial was held for the dog, and a King County investigation was conducted which concluded that none of the officers acted inappropriately, Des Moines Mayor Bob Sheckler criticized the officers, saying the incident caused "irrevocable damage" to the department's reputation, and the Des Moines Police Guild called for the mayor to resign because of those comments. Well, now that KOMO News has published dash-cam footage of the incident, we can put this whole thing to rest, right?

Probably not.

The video certainly shows that the officers spent a great deal of time tracking the loose dog. They tried to corral her, and even tazed her twice. And they discussed--rather jocularly--about how long to wait before opening fire on her.

Some gems of the cops' insensitivity include lines like "I'd hate to kill him in his own yard" and, after shooting the animal four times with an assault rifle, "Niiiiice!"

Here's KOMO's report.

And here's the dash-cam footage (plus a link to dash-cam footage from all four police cars involved, because the abridged video below has been going down and coming back up periodically).

It's important to note that they said "They felt their lives were in danger" while carrying enough forepower to level an elephant facing a dog that mad no moves towards them.
So how were they in danger when all they had to do was walk away?!? They have a problem leaving stuff alone.

what did the dog lovers want?? for the cops to massage the dogs balls?? if the dog was maintained in a yard or on a leash, this would not have happened.:smh:

just a fuckin' dog. now how many tens of thousands of dollars will they spend on this 'investigation'?

When did loose dogs become a police priority where we need more than one cop. Call the SPCA they know how to deal with aggressive animals.

After all the "HELL" they gave VICK and you motherfuckaz is soooo cooned up and scared of the JAKES no one is outraged!!!

No one wants them to hand in their badge and do some time:smh::smh::smh:

Did anybody notice it was a BLACK dog:angry:

Vick can't do it but CAC COPS can!:lol::lol: :hmm:!

i'm wondering why this wasn't an animal control issue?

what was the dog doing that required police response?

why was the animal put down when it wasn't presenting an imminent danger to anyone?

where da hell was animal control? they got tranquilizers and non lethal items to capture a dog. hell, if u taze a damn goldfish and then try to catch him, he gonna be pissed too. fucked up shit there. what da hell was the big hurry anyways to get this dog...they made it seem like they were tyring to catch a bear or some shit...

Exactly

That dog wasnt aggressive it was jus scared and the cops had her cornered. But at the same time i understand that those cops were scared

I keep tellin' yo mofos that these CACs in Washington are fucked up in the head. This is LAPD all over again up here; they just haven't been fully investigated yet. This was an example of how they think of people of color as well. "Just shoot 'em".
Des Moines is "technically" another city but if you came to Seattle, you couldn't tell Des Moines was outside of Seattle. Most of them commute to downtown for work.
Its the same area; different name. Same pigs.
