Sounds like he called them coons.

The way Brown sees it, many of today's athletes are simply in it for the money and celebrity, refusing to accept responsibility for having a huge impact on the culture around them. And he's not afraid of naming names. "Athletes need to represent more than that just getting a big contract and lots of endorsements," he says. "Take Michael Jordan. To me, he's full of bull. He's hiding his true self. All he cares about is getting ahead, being popular and enjoying the wealth of this country. Same with Kobe Bryant. For them, it's all about making money and doing all the commercials."

and is he correct.

in fact, the argument can be made that Jordan is the one who killed the black athlete/activist tradition in our community, going all the way back to paul robeson....

The shit is a fact...............and continues. Cats like Ali and Brown must be sick to their stomach.

Jordan had enough money for his kids kids not to be broke before he won his first ring. Never really spoke on shit. The athletes of browns time had to take 'real' jobs to get by sometimes, that means the stars that risked their popularity weren't eating all like that.

It must make them sick to see todays black athletes.

he said "many of today's athletes are simply in it for the money and celebrity, refusing to accept responsibility for having a huge impact on the culture around them"

not about racism but doing things to show kids they have options and helping the black community, that doesnt automatically = "hate on whitey"

No it's not the 1960s and believe it or not "racial equality" is still a major issue in this country. Because this issue still exist the need for black athletes and entertainers to voice their opinions is needed now as much as ever. Can you live wherever you want? Walk or drive into any neighboorhood you want without fear of arrest? NO! Jim Brown is 100% correct! But it's not just Jordan and Bryant.

In addition we have with the best shot ever to not only elect a black president but to elect a man who seems to have the average man's (that's you and me) best interest at heart and not that of big business. Where are the black athletes and entertainers? They all seem to have their heads stuck up their asses. Afraid to take a stand.

There's much more to being a great athlete or entertainer than just doing well on the ball field or appearing when scheulded. The Jim Brown's and Ali's paved the way for the successes that many enjoy today. They all need to step up to the plate and let their opinions be heard regardless of if you approve of their opinions or not.

the key phrase here is A BLACK MAN IS ABOUT TO BE PRESIDENT!!!

WHAT DOES HE WANT KOBE TO DO??? kobe was born with a silverspoon in his mouth you want him to say, black men gets no respect???

Jim Brown is 100% correct. I was done with Jordan when he made the "republicans buy shoes too..." comment. I will not buy anything with the Jordan brand on it. I barely buy nike because of him. If I do buy it I get it a Marshall or a thrift store or some other knock off spot.

^^^But all are meant to be accountable. Hell, there are many, many unsungs that did what Jim Brown did and more but the spotlight just was not on them.

You owe it. You owe it to yourself and to your people. I think the reason we don't understand is because we could always use the same bathroom, water fountain and phone booths as white folks. Nigga, that was not so long ago.

Hell my PARENTS, not grandparents, picked cotton. They are from north Alabama. Thank God I don't have to. Just due to our positiion in this society you will always be more accountable than necessary because the system was not originally made for you. It has been ammended to "tolerate" you.

Now, I have nothing against these althetes personally but when you have that type of influence and that type of wealth you are in a position to do a lot with a little WITHOUT selling out and WITHOUT jeapordizing your wealth completely. There will be risk. That's a part of life.

I wish I had a source but I was watching a documentary on Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson or one of them older cats and he talked about telling his dad what he wanted to be. I think it was Bill. Bill must have named 5 professions, including basketball player, and his dad matter of factly said, "No, you can't because there are no black _________."

Think about that. There is not one profession, except the Presidency so far that we cannot VISUALIZE a black person in. I say that to say this. When your IMAGE is everywhere, it needs to count in more than dollars and cents through entertainment. Ain't but so many job openings in NBA, NFL, MLB or NHL teams.

The commercial for college athletes is right. The majority of those f
*ckers are DEFINITELY majoring in something besides sports.

P.S. Now, I give Jordan much slack. I actaully read damn near everything in print about Jordan when I was growing up. Jordan, from what I read, did a lot of "unsung" work in the hood of Chicago. That is no small feat because the hood WAS on fire when that cat was playing and he was going there at night by himself. I give him props on that. He may have played the game just right. I don't need to "telegraph" my philanthropic work.

OK MALCOLM SLIM JONES GET TO WORK NEXT YEAR OCTOBER 13, 2009 REPOST AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR YOUR PEOPLE NEGROS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT WHAT OTHER ARE DOING WTF HAVE YOU DONE, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS?

UNTIL YOU PITCH A FUCKING HAND IN YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR BULLSHIT EMPTY RHETORIC AND COMMENTS TO YOURSELF!:hmm:

MORE ACTION LESS TALK NEGRO.

It's attitudes like yours that stunts blacks growth. I know people that barely has a pot to piss in and people that will give a black man/woman their last just to try to set a tradition of giving(to other blacks) or helping them to buy books for school. If they can do that, those athletes can. If we had continued to do that, we probably would have respect from ourselves and others would have respect for us. People talk shit about the Jews but they help each other out. I would think that people don't hate them, they fear them (and what they are capable of doing).

the way i see it people like Kobe and Jordan have a JOB. If your goal in your job isnt to get wealthy then what the fuck are you doing? If Jordan and Kobe dont have a political bone in their bodies then i dont expect them to be on TV fighting for our rights and what not

Very few, who make as much as Jordan and Kobe, will do what Jim Brown is suggesting. I'm not saying he's wrong, but the reality of the situation is, it ain't happening.

I think it's too easy for people who aren't making big money to tell people who are making big money what they should be doing.

I would like to perform an experiment: Let's allow a few militants a month of the high-life. What they don't know is, it will end in a month's time. Let that lifestyle sink in for about two weeks, and then let's see how militant they are.

Now, their are some dudes who'd still be down for the cause -- and their would be more than a few who'd get exposed for being jealous because they wanted to live on Easy Street, but it never worked out for them. Now that they THINK they've finally made it, they become Republicans....

..."Hell, I'm proof that you can make it if you try! Let 'em pull themselves up by their bootstraps!!"

I agree, there are some cats that only think that the big money brotha have to do everything, Many don't even know what Kobe or Michael even do on the side.

How many of you so called activist are even part of your neighborhood association. How many of you reject the openning of new liquor stores in you town. Shit, how many of you even offer to cut your neighbor grass for free!!

Make sure that you take care of your area before you ask for the superstar to step in.

Hence the saying.........

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter into heaven."

He is right about people not having an opinion because they so scared someone isnt going to like them. You never see Barkley holding back what he thinks he isnt worried about seeming generic in order to further his marketing potential. I do have a problem with that but we are in a different age where if you are going to say something that someone doesnt like it gets dissected for three days until you issue a lame ass retraction because we have too many "journalists" and "broadcasters" who need something to do with themselves.

Respectfully, I think you're missing the point. If kids heard that there was a Black guy on the street corner talking about staying in school, do you think they would rush out of the house if it were me or you on the corner? Probably not. I think what Jim Brown is trying to say is that African American athletes could be more "visible" in the community. I'm sure Mike and Kobe to do stuff in the community. The approach is much different today than when Jim was playing. The first example of the "modern day athlete" was O.J.. (unfortunately). O.J. was the first Black athlete that was actually a corporate entity unto himself. They can't afford to have bad press per se.

On the other hand, these guys do have huge leverage with the shoe companies and other corporate sponsors. This subject has been addressed on the board before so I won't beat it to dedath. I understand what you're saying but, I understand what Jim is saying to.

Jim is right Michael, Kobe, and others like them could give 2 fucks about the black community. They living good in burbs fucking white women, they like Bush don't care about black people neither.

Yet black people are getting in long lines to buy their tennis shoes, and killing themselves over their products.:smh:
