Jets in turmoil

There were a lot of ugly moments during the Jets’ meltdown in Miami Sunday, but one stood above the rest.

Santonio Holmes, after barking at a teammate in the huddle, was pulled from the game late in the fourth quarter. He sat on the bench with his helmet off, not even paying attention as his team’s season ended. After the game, one unnamed Jets teammate said Holmes “quit” on the team. And it didn’t start this week.

“He quit,” the player told Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger. “It’s happened for the past two to three weeks. It’s happened all season.”

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer apparently made the call to take Holmes out.

“I looked out there, and I was wondering why he wasn’t out there myself,” coach Rex Ryan said. “I didn’t bench Santonio. You’ll have to ask him.”

It looks like Ryan is in self-preservation mode, trying to maintain his relationship with Holmes. Multiple players told Vrentas that Holmes “moped” throughout the game and often ignored Mark Sanchez. One player already told Holmes to get off the field if he wasn’t going to help the team.

“I’ll tell you what, it’s tough for guys to follow a captain that kind of behaves in that manner,” LaDainian Tomlinson said. “When you’re a captain, guys are looking at you, you’ve got to lead by example. You’ve got to play your tail off until the last play. And when that don’t happen, you have guys looking at you in a way that captains shouldn’t be looked at.”

Tomlinson said that guys were unhappy with Holmes’ demeanor. That demeanor didn’t improve much after the game.

Holmes made it clear he wasn’t happy with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, saying it wasn’t his decision if Schottenheimer returned.

Holmes was then asked about his future with the team.

“Thank you guys,” Holmes said before abruptly ending his press conference.

It’s going to be fun offseason in New York.

I'm a BILLS fan through and through, but my second favorite team is the Giants....they BETTER win tonight....:lol: at the J-E-T-S...:hmm: they still beat my BILLS twice though. :hmm:

dude your celebrating like you made it to the playoffs in 1 of the last 3 years.... Dudes are emotional and him not saying anything is a off the cuff way to say its either schotty or me.

thats the funny thing about OP he talks more about the Jets than the sorry ass Goldfish...

dude is extra happy when Jets lose yet his team has been garbage for the past few seasons...:smh:

Jets been to consecutive AFC championship games...Goldfish Consecutive losing seasons

Two things:

One-As soon as he got benched, the Jets marched down the field in like 40 seconds for a TD
Two-Anyone else think Holmes was more pissed that he knew his catch per game streak was coming to a close?

holmes is the only person on that team with a ring.

he can do and say anything he wants.

AND A SUPERBOWL MVP

FOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

The whole offensive staff is reportedly being fired. Jets are also reportedly going to waive Bart Scott so him and thomas are gone... Jets will be getting a whole lot younger and faster on defense. Rex will build his offensive squad now he inherited those coaches from mangini now he will hire his own. Also expect the team to target Malcolm Floyd with his game breaker randy moss ability in the first round to give Sanchez a legit deep threat. Santonio may not be going anywhere not sure differing reports. also several jets played with torn ligaments they never told anyone one report says Sanchez played with a torn muscle in his shoulder and told no one which should have kept him out some games but he didn't want to do that. Also the jets will have two new safeties according to reports, big defensive turnover as Rex will build this team his style on both sides

The jets will look totally different next season. Faster stronger more attacking.

Missing the playoffs was the best thing for this team it will now make the changes it needs too, get younger and remain in the hunt for years.

See, this shit right here.....:smh: He should've rested, let Brunell make a couple of moves. Might've put a couple of wins up for us and he could've came back in the playoffs (rested).

he didn't have a torn muscle and nobody knew...
they investigate the players not just sit there and wait for them to come to them...

that being said it ain't an excuse for his shitty play. period

Lmao

yeah, he could get deep, but couldn't catch a cold...

true dude had hands of stone :smh:

but the defense had to honor the threat which made Sanchez much better..

Braylon didn't drop any passes with the Jets. You're talking about his rep from the Browns.

Roddy White and Brandon Marshall drop a bunch of fuckin passes now. :smh:

That was a Jay Cutler moment

He was injured, but he didn't show he was injured.

Schotty will interview for the jabs hc job, jets will hold off on firing him in hopes he gets a hc job if he does they will target norv turner or josh mcdaniels... Norv sucks as a hc but he's fucking brilliant as an oc...I prefer Todd Haley after what he did with Kurt Warner and him having jets roots but long as schotty is gone I'm good

He tore a muscle during the redskins game it wasn't major because he downplayed it but reports r it got worse. It fits sanchezes personality he plays hurt ad tells no one, last season he played with a partial dislocated knee cap and even took his brace off during games until Rex found out and he had to put the brace on then he had knee surgery to fix the knee. When he's hurt he doesn't tell anyone.

I been trying not to say this for three years, but here it is....

If Rex thinks Sanchez has all the tools to be a great quarterback, he is delusional. He may have most of the physical tools (as did others like Jeff George and Ryan Leaf), but not the mental ones. He still is not capable of scanning the entire field, and focuses on one receiver.

That enables the dbacks to cover more easily and jump routes, and also explains all the passes blocked and even intercepted at the line. He does not hit receivers in stride, or throw to spaces like the back shoulder sideline throw. The inability to make the timing and space throws, and properly lead a receiver, shows a lack of mental perception. He still makes amazingly stupid plays because he does not think about the game situation.

He too often has that deer in the headlights look when he is in the pocket. All of these shortcomings show a gross lack of mental ability that, if he has not shown significant progress by the third year, will likely never come about. Defenses are not afraid of him making the long or sideline throws, so they crowds the box, and kill the running game. Bottom line is that he is NOT the qb that will lead a team to the Superbowl.

At the very LEAST Rex needs to make this a competition between Sanchez and McElroy next season.

We r fucked. Shitty is coming back unless he gets a hc job....i wanted fresh blood at oc... Hopefully we add some talent at least
