Music legend Aretha Franklin wants Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson to play her in an upcoming film based on her life.

The Queen of Soul appeared backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Monday night, where she talked about Hudson being the ideal choice to portray her.

A book on Franklin's life is scheduled to debut as a theatre production in the coming months, with talk of Hudson playing the soul legend in the film adaptation already in circulation.

Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar last month for her role as Effie White in the movie musical Dreamgirls.

Typecast already. Well i hope she puts that money in the bank. Not too many big body diva parts to play.

She could pull it off. She did great as Effie White so I have no doubt she could play Aretha and if the Queen is giving her the green light I say do it. Look what it did for Jamie Foxx playing Ray Charles.

don't worry..hollywood will get to her and she'll lose the weight after filming this flick...trust me..it always happens.

Jennifer Hudson is not an "actress" (and isn't particularly interested in being one, at least for now). She's far more concerned with working on her singing career and finishing up her album.

They need to slow this down with Jennifer Hudson.

The bigger roles coming on much too quick.

just the opposite..you gotta strike with the irons hot.

don't you watch Entourage??

but seriously..in order to be taken seriously as a star attraction you gotta take the big roles when they come

She's interested in singing, not acting. The "iron is hot" for her album and singing career, not for further acting roles (as far as she's concerned). Her sensational acting debut was a once-in-a-lifetime match-up of performer and role (as with other well-cast, non-acting musical performers, like Dexter Gordon). Her success in this one tailor-made film means little in terms of future parts or as a guarantee that she has any ability to play other roles. SHE knows this.

Gotta agree with Blunt on this one.:puke: :D

The stars were lined up perfectly for that Effie role but you can already see that "Hollywood" isn't going to give her much outside of playing a big, overweight, singing Black woman in anything.

She should throw 'em the middle digit and keep her singing dreams in front of her. She definitely needs to keep working at it to become the type of singer I think she should/could be.

D-Nice 1 (The Nice One)

In a way, Blunt's right.

This was a tailor made once in a lifetime part for J-Hud where all the stars aligned.

Think Haing S. Ngor in the Killing Fields. He got the Oscar playing a part he himself lived.

Having said that, Jennifer may make a great Queen of Soul.

Nothing wrong with going 2 for 2.

I have to co-sign with geechidan. As a person who works in entertainment, it is best that she explore all of her options. if the right people are attached to the project then it would foolhardy for her to not take the role. If you ahven't noticed, there has been a convergence of both music and movies with many stars, especially Black stars, being from a music background. IE. Beyonce, Wil Smith, Eve, Ice Cube etc. As a woman she has a short shelf life, and it is particulary shorter for Black women. She needs to do things while she is hot. Also, she's a big gurl, and there will be extreme pressure for her to lose the weight. I don't see her lasting too long by just focusing on her music. In this day and age you ahve to have diversify. Best wishes to her. I would suggest play the Aretha role. lose some weight and come out with her album.

Plus, how are some of you gonna speak as if you are her spokespersoon. That is some funny shit.

Jennifer is kinda like your old skool R&B female artist. I can't think of a better person. I hope she does it.

WOW!!! most of you sleep on how major this is for J. H.....she will be one of the largest out of nowhere actresses in hollywood if she lands it and nails it....sleep if ya'll want to but the fact that she turned down that other role because of nudity is just that a fact not the truth the truth is she can see things like this looming in the future and rather that sell out for three million on a project that could stunt her growth she is cashing in on roles that could make her a mega millionaire by the time she's 30.....

Damm, her being uptight about nudity make her sexier. Demanding respect for her body, she must have some out of this world sweet ebony pussy.

she's GONNA HAVE TO lose the weight whether she's singing or acting thats a given..

and while singing is her first love and main money maker the winning an oscar for an ACTING role is something she can't ignore..She didn't just win an academy award for singing "And I'm Telling You..." She won best supporting ACTRESS.

Now she has a number of superstitious "curses" to contend with:

The Sophomore Curse - the second project after an excellent first one almost always sucks.

The Oscar Curse - first time oscar winners almost always NEVER maintain that high level of work afterwards. (Lou Gossett Jr., Marisa Tomei )

The Just Being a Black Woman In Hollywood Curse - self explanatory

Its like running a gauntlet...just square your shoulders and hit it full tilt thats the ONLY way she make it. Pussyfooting around and backing off of offers (LUCRATIVE OFFERS mind you..her asking price just jump up a few MILLION thanx to that statute) isn't going to get her thru the bullshit that runs hollywood.

Also her style of singing sound very mature and we're in an IMMATURE cycle as far as female singers are concerned..with the rihannas and ciaras and such everyone is looking for that bubblegum pop PACKAGE (sex appeal, tight body, dancing ability, can basically carry a tune...note whats LAST) and THAT is not jennifer hudson right now.

She has BIG GIRL sex appeal..something that works for the brothas but mainstream america (white america) still likes their beanpoles. She's not known for that pussypoppin shake that ass dancing that their doing today. And singing wise she blows her contemporaries out of the water but her voice is better suited to adult contemporary stuff not bubblegum pop.

As its stands she only going to offered the wife/girlfriend roles anyway or things like Aretha so WHY NOT do it?

Concur!!!!

She needs to maximize her opportunities, and they are pretty limited considering who she is.

There really aren't that many roles for Black women, and she has the opportunity to exceed what the Gabrielle Unions can't do. She can have a lead role of a major star in American music history. She would be a fool not to take it especially if the right people are attached to the project.

Btw, I said she should lose weight after the film if it is scheduled to go into production anytime soon, but she can't stay this big and be Hollyweird. She will have to go the gospel route if she wants to stay as she is or be relegated to that Mammy/Monique image.

I guess she is not a member of SAG. She is more of an actress than most. She is working, and not many people can say they are working actors. less than 5% of all SAG members work where they can make a living. Now take into account all the actors who are not part of the union.
