Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony split: Couple to divorce after seven years of marriage
Love don't cost a thing – and it also doesn't last for Jennifer Lopez.
The Bronx-born superstar, 41, and husband Marc Anthony, 42, have pulled the plug on their seven-year union, her rep tells the Daily News.
"We have decided to end our marriage," the couple said in a joint statement. "This was a very difficult decision. We have come to amicable conclusions on all matters."
"It is a painful time for all involved," they continued. "and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
The couple is parents to two children: 3-year-old fraternal twins Max and Emme.
After years of friendship, Lopez and Anthony briefly dated in the 1990s. They rekindled their romance in early 2004 shortly after Lopez's engagement to actor Ben Affleck ended and in the midst of Anthony's split from his first wife, former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. They quietly wed at Lopez's Beverly Hills home in June 2004, just four days after Anthony's divorce from Torres was finalized.
The couple said "I do" two more times when they renewed their vows in 2008, and again for their sixth wedding anniversary last year.
Lopez had been married twice before: to restaurateur Ojani Noa (they split in 1998) and former backup dancer Cris Judd (they divorced in 2003 after two years).
"I think you can love many different people, but that's different from what makes a great partner in life, which Marc is for me," Lopez told Redbook last year of her spouse. "He inspires me to be better at everything – a better person, mom, singer, performer, friend, and wife.
"A marriage is long, and you've got to like the person as much as you love or lust after them. You've got to be friends first."
Lopez and Anthony frequently mixed business with pleasure during their relationship.
In addition to recording two duets, they did a joint tour together and starred in the 2006 movie flop, "El Cantante." Lopez even took on backup dancer duties in May when Anthony performed on "American Idol," where she debuted as a judge this past season.
In April, the couple announced plans to team up with "Idol" creator Simon Fuller to launch "Q'Viva! The Chosen," a quest to find the best Latin performers in North and South America.
A teaser clip for the singing competition has already been released, however it is unknown if the show will continue.
