Yo im putting in for vacation in 3 days and gonna hit up Africa this year.Any of u been? If so please give me suggestions on what countries to hit up and what months would be ideal.
Note: This is my first trip outside the continental America and im planning it to be around 3 weeks.

So far the biggest suggestion was Kenya because it is beautiful and safe for tourists.

-Thanx in advance.

Well My Homegirl Went To South Africa Last Year. She Said It Was A Great Experience.. The Pictures Were Beautiful Too.

All I Can Say Is Make Sure You Go To Your Dr And Get All Of The Appropriate Shots And Pills To Protect You From The Different Things In The Air/water/insect Bites Over There..

Be Safe.. Peace..

Thanx man.Whereabouts in South Africa? A friend of mine from the Congo told me that was the #1 country to avoid. She didnt elaborate though.

she went to robben island, where they jailed mandela, and i think capetown, and some other places.. i dont remember all of the details 100%, but i know she said that she had a very good time, and that she would do it again,... nothing negative at all.

Hit up Nigeria
Depending on where you go, it's a beautiful place full of nothing but beautiful black faces
I stayed there for a month over 10 years ago
Make sure you get a malaria vaccination before you go
There's a part of town in Lagos called Victoria Island that's a little more "tourist friendly"
There's also a city with a lot of oil refineries called Port Harcourt that's very nice and by the ocean
Bring your own water if you can or make sure you buy from the stores or at least prepare to drink soda constantly from old bottles
Go during the summer over here (it's the "Rainy" season over there and not too hot during that time)

Have fun and enjoy the motherland

Go find where your most recent ancestors came from
The slaves in the Americas (including the Carribean) came overwhelmingly from West Africa, from the areas that are now Mali, Mauretania, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana, for example.
map989.jpg

PROJECTED EXPORTS OF THAT PORTION OF THE FRENCH AND ENGLISH SLAVE TRADE HAVING IDENTIFIABLE REGION OF COAST ORIGIN IN AFRICA, 1711-1810.

Senegambia (Senegal-Gambia) * 5.8%
Sierra Leone 3.4%
Windward Coast (Ivory Coast) * 12.1%
Gold Coast (Ghana) * 14.4%
Bight of Benin (Nigeria) * 14.5
Bight of Biafra (Nigeria) * 25.1%
Central and Southeast Africa (Cameroon-
N. Angola) * 24.7%

What he said, and yes I'm currently in South Africa (born and raised) :)
Cape town is a nice tourist destination, you should visit Robin island. We a currently experiencing a heat wave, so it Cape will be nice and warm (usually it's around 4 season in a single day)

There is Knysna the garden route, beautiful and relaxing. If you are a beach person (Cape Town's sea is cold, you can visit where the two oceans meet though) anyway, a warm beach is in Durban visit Umhlanga Rocks if you decide to go there.

There is also Mpumalanga, has a huge game reserve and a lot of lovely places to visit. It's almost off season, so it should be cheaper and at the current exchange rate $1 = R7.37 the dollar will last.

Johannesburg is hectic around this time (ok always), you need some one to take you around Soweto and see it. There are nice game farms around Jozi (Johannesburg) that you can visit to be away from the city.

Oh, crime is a bit of an issue currently esepecially around Jozi (I'm from Soweto), so...

Hope this helps.

Yup, racism will never end. We all just have to accept that. Was it a army ship that you were on? There was one that docked at Cape Town a few years back, and the government was worried that it could pose a security threat if more than 50 soldiers were allowed out

There are a lot of dyme's but the HIV thing teaches you to keep it in your pants :(

Gambia, south africa, botswana, ghana , zambia and kenya are the best places to visit

make sure you get your anti malaria medicine because the mosquito's love fresh meat and can kill you if you catch malaria.
