Do you think teens and youngsters today would eat it up? The trend in hip-hop seems that kids will like ANYTHING on the radio. So if one day they just started pumpin that wu-tang, illmatic nas, common, reasonable doubt jay-z, epmd, ice cube, 2pac, big l, biggie etc on the radio and MTV, do you think kids would embrace it? I have friends tell me to stop playing Nas- NY State of Mind because it was "old school" Then they start bumpin some crunk sh1t. So do you think if there was an overnight shift in hip-hop, would kids like it?

They are kids. Let them listen to what they want to listen to. As they get older, they will start to appreciate old school. Thats how it was for me. I went from only listing to Rap (and some R&B) to Break Beats. and Break Beats opened up me up to a different forms of music from all genres.

But think. What if it was 1993 and you were playing Black Moon and your friend came along and started playing Fat Boys from 1985. You would have told him to turn that shit off because its played out. There was no such thing as Nostalgia in Hiphop until 1995.

Kids don't want to be lectured, all they want to do is PUSH IT and do DA BUTT and DA WOP and BREAK and POP. Remember how it was when your parents said "That aint real music" and how animate you were to defend what you like? Well thats how a lot of kids feel today.

Let them be kids.

And to be honest, I feel kinda pissed off yall consider Old School to be Late 80's Early 90's. You are aware that Hiphop's best years were from 1979 to 1987, Right? Thats when all the elements were seen as one.

Kids are kids, but we hold BOTH Black Moon and Fat Boys in high regard (even if for different reasons). There's no way I would let a kid give me a screw face for bumping some Nas or Kool G. rap over fucking Hurricane Chris or Young Berg. The majority of these new kats are strictly "ringtone rappers" (see the Busta vid for explanation) and "won't be around next year" (like Craig Mack explained in 1994).

I dont see radio or TV pushing any old Hip Hop for a couple of reasons. First, the labels aren't sacrificing screen time for "old shit" when they are pushing the next Laffy Taffy. And while an old skool station would work, remember they are competing for views and way back then everybody listened to the same Hip Hop (just like back in the 50s-70s black kids, parents, old folks all listened to the same shit). Also, the labels might feel like there's no money in putting the old stuff out again because onld real Hip Hop heads are trying to buy all the old vinyl, CDs, etc.

Then you have new cats like Kanye and them (who arent necessarily putting out bullshit) that are such attention whores that while they give props to the old school, arent trying to share anything remotely close to equal stage/screen time with old timers. As a result, we have bullshit like Celebrity Rap Superstar on TV fucking up the legacy of old heads like Lyte, Tone Loc, Too Short, etc under the guise of giving props to the old school (when really theses cats are out of work and were just available).

And yes, old school is the 80s, but you cant deny that 90s Hip Hop shit that basically birthed the bullshit we see today......so....:(
