Homeowners who do you have your insurance through

So far I've spoken to reps from Nationwide & State Farm. Nationwide has the better home insurance rates by far but neither can beat my car insurance with Geico. They're either double what I pay now with Geico on a 6 month premium or close to it. Gonna check AllState next for their premiums as well as verify what I can potentially get through Geico as I confirmed they're partnered with Liberty Mutual.

My wife and I are buying our first home. We had auto insurance through Esurance for years, lowest rates around. But we found CINCINNATI FINANCIAL, and they were able to give us a really nice quote on our car insurance combined with home insurance.

PS... Check for "water back-up" insurance, which is different than "flood" insurance, especially if you have a finished basement (MAN CAVE!)

Stop what you're doing. I have Nationwide, not only are they the cheapest I could find but they covered me when the toilet upstairs wouldn't stop running, flooded the whole upstairs in the middle of the night. I even got a couple of upgrades and cash leftover and when it was done I got the remaining 10% of my claim sent to me. $1,000 deductible.

These people are beautiful. I want a wife like this company.

did your rate go up after you filed that claim

Well I spoke with AllState and while their homeowners premium is very competitive with Nationwide, their NC policy only allows for them to provide a homeowners policy when accompanied by an auto policy. They can't do standalone policies  Unfortunately none of them are beating Geico. I raised my coverages on Geico to match what they were gonna give me and was still over $200 cheaper. Looks like I'll probably end up going with Nationwide after I have them make a few tweaks to their original quote

Huh? Did you speak with a local agency or the Call Center? We haven't launched House and Home in NC due to issues with the DOI. They were probably trying to muscle you a bit into bringing your auto insurance also but its not required for you to have your homeowners and auto together.

I believe it was a local agency but I could be wrong as my call was rerouted when I called the general 800 number and provided the zipcode I'm purchasing my home in. This is what I received in my email when I asked him about just going after the homeowner's insurance as I'll be staying with my current auto provider and to up the medical payments coverage to $5K

Good afternoon.

Thanks for your quick response. Raising the medical payments coverage to $5000 will only increase you premium by $12 annually.

I’ve reviewed our NC policy guidelines with our company’s underwriter. I can offer you the home policy but only with the accompanying auto policy. We cannot offer the home as a standalone policy.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,
Ken

Talked to our underwriting department and confirmed it, so he was correct.

Frigging Nationwide can't set up a policy for me cuz I'm not living in the home I'm buying yet & I need an active policy to close. Back to the drawing board :smh:

Now I'm debating between keeping my Geico auto insurance where I'm only paying $688 for full coverage with $250 deductibles & get State Farm homeowners insurance for $1512 annually or get AllState where my auto would be $961 for 6 months with & 500 deductibles but the homeowners insurance would be $1365

I'm telling you El Jefe give https://www.cinfin.com/ A try, at least get a quote from them. I believe they are in many states across America. I'm buying a home in Michigan and I just got them. Our closing is Monday and we had to pay our insurance today for the year. $1000 bucks, WITH water back up coverage, and we have our 3 vehicles tied in with auto insurance, which turned out to be cheaper than our Esurance

If it did, it was insignificant. Seems though my rate has gone up every year, I started at 380 per year in 2000 and increased to 562 per year today. No significant jumps were noticed though after the claim. But the value of my home has increased by over 200k.

They should be able to give you a binder valid from the day of closing. Well, maybe that's why we don't see too many nationwide policies in my office.

Most insurance companies have strict vacancy requirements when it comes to homeowners insurance. Some require that you actually have closing documentation or actually residing at the property and others won't care until they send contracted inspectors to verify the property is occupied.

Nationwide is a funny company but the reason is they're not big into property insurance and are very strict in underwriting it. Hell, they're still trying to stay black in their auto business for the most part.

I elected to go with Allstate and so far haven't had any issues. I might consider switching to Nationwide but I remember some people telling me it's not good to jump between insurances after short amounts of time.

I have travelers, thinking about switching to State Farm however we are paid untill Jan 18 with travelers
