Hollywood News: Reese Witherspoon says she tried to say no to infamous Fear sex scene with Mark Wahlberg

I was listening to an interview with an intimacy coordinator last week. She was explaining how they help productions run smoothly. And not everything is purely sex scene-related. Said some of her most baffling moments are dealing with directors who are stuck in the past. Saying comments that have people around them cringing. I.E. using juvenile humor or slang. Doesn’t exactly make for the most “at ease” environment.

Aubrey Plaza recently admitted that the masturbation scene in The To Do List was uncomfortable for her....and that was a female director!

Damn...

There has been a lot of this

But to be fair

And I am not diminishing what happened to these actors

But in our so called regular lives

You know how much uncomfortable and demeaning sh*t we have had to endure?

For free?

With absolutely no choices options or outs?

And for much more dire stakes?

I get it. This is horrible. And I do think these stories need to get told.

But also I wonder why NOW?
And to what end?

These are really old events and some actors have worked with the SAME PEOPLE afterward... and said nothing despite their CURRENT standing and status?

What's the endgame here?

More & more (White) actresses are gonna come forward with "complaints" of how badly they felt doing onscreen sex/love scenes. Or say they were tricked, coerced or forced to do them.

There’s really no need to even do or have sex scenes it’s fucking retarded unless you’re going to show actual penetration

TRUE!

I'm not even doubting the veracity

I'm just surprised that SO MANY are talking about these experiences

DECADES later.

And some are super duper stars who still remained silent and watched
I remember reading a story about Margaret Hamilton, who played Wicked Witch of the West. She was from my hometown of Cleveland. She along with her stunt double were severely burned. Her stunt double was in the hospital for 11 days.

Margaret Hamilton said She could sue or report the problems, but if she did she knew they'd make sure she'd never work again

Now I have heard THAT and many many many stories like it my whole life

Movies TV and theatre even commercials

it'd difficult for me to explain so maybe I'm just wrong and being obtuse

But to say all this NOW?

not even at the height of #metoo, or Floyd protests when corporations were forced in positions to respond and react.

Even symbolically

But NOW?

really saying it now? Does what exactly?

Because it's becoming so common place the public doesn't react in fact it's actually NORMALIZING past behavior.

So what now?

We have intimacy coordination. So now you can't complain ever again? Because the studios gave you chance to voice your concerns?

So no buyers remorse?

And for many of these women to remain silent even when they became producers and directors themselves?

Ok I get it. I'm happy they are being heard and believed and I hope we this act brings closure and peace.

Mark & Reece chosen for the roles for their ACTING skills.
That scene could have been "acted" with the same believability without contact.
It wasn't seeing him touch her - it was s eeingher reaction shots that set the vibe.

Wahlberg needs the Cosby treatment, eh...

Hmmm...

Interesting take.

Also the director responsibility too.

nudity and sex are just for titillation. Very rarely does it drive a story or contribute greatly to the develop or arc of the characters.

The nudity in that scene^^^^....as hot as it was...really wasn't necessary to the story. And it did nothing to enhance nadine_velazquez's career.

I think actors going forward should consider 3 things when theres sex or nudity in a story:

1. Is it important to the story overall?
2. does a graphic depiction make sense?
3. will it help my career?

if all three of those points cant be answered then its not worth doing.
