These corporations go above and beyond making their number one priority to cut pay and benefits in order to increase profits.

Im hearing now that Walmart is looking at ripping out all those self checkout registers. They are losing money on them cuz folks have figured out how to manipulate them and not pay the proper price for merchandise, or hide expensive merchandise in with the cheap shit they paid for.

They don’t have the manpower in the stores to go thru every bag and match what’s in the cart with the receipt.

So they might be going back to cashiers soon. They did that self checkout to cut labor expense and thinking customers will be honest.

They learned the hard way. HaHa!!!

Some dumbass CEOs and CFOs trying to boost bonuses by cutting people always comes back and bites them. This concept of being lean is killing companies.

Also, this is how they manipulate stocks. They cut jobs and beat forecast because they've lowered expenditures then 120 days later they say they are ramping up to meet "new" demand and increase stock price and bonuses.

"When you're hyper-efficient, you're ill-prepared for unexpected things like pandemics."
That statement is a bit lost on me. Isn't one of the points of efficiency to anticipate unknown operational problems?
Did business school fail me?

Being hyper-efficient doesn't leave room for disruptions. In a perfect world you have just enough resources, people and things, to accomplish your task. But we all know its not a perfect world and someone will come do an audit and survey and say hey why do we have all of these redundancies and overlapping positions.

You don't know what you will need till you need it and you hope you can get it when the time comes.

You do know that lowering wages isn’t done specifically to increase profits. That’s part of the story, but also to lower prices. If you want higher wages, are you also Ok with higher prices?

Airlines - huge (BILLIONS) federal bailouts to keep workers on the payroll; pocketed the money and laid off workers; today, canceled flights everywhere because of shortage of workers who basically said fuck yo couch.

Railroads - cut jobs to increase profits for upper management and top stockholders; ask remaining workers to work harder for the same or less pay; today, rails and yards are jammed because workers basically said fuck yo couch.

Trucking companies - laid off workers with no compensation so CEOs could grab big bonuses; today, goods can't get to local destinations because of a lack of truckers (who by the way can only drive so many hours by law), and many truckers won't come back and said fuck yo couch.

Rinse and repeat. It's the same old story, told dozens of times. The 1% are so greedy and shortsighted they don't see or don't care that the foundation is being eroded beyond saving by their actions.

As a consultant, I've always associated efficiency with the ability to reduce, improve, anticipate, and accelerate. You make a good point, but managers should always predict the likelihood of unexpected problems with the PESTLE model. Perhaps my understanding is biased and limited to my practice as my goal is to save clients from themselves due to lack of foresight and operational mismanagement.

You are correct. The problem is that the "suits" only focus on financial efficiency.

They don't take into account external things like strikes until they are facing one. They don't take things like train derailments etc... into account either.

Everything is perfect in their world. We can cut people's pay and they'll keep working, because they need the jobs. We can cut the health care, just put a State Sanctioned sign up telling people that "Safety Matters," that covers health maintenance.

All these guys see is Profits, Profits, and Profits. Then they get caught with their pants down.

Instead of hiring all these "suits", get some staff workers involved in the planning processes. But, we are ultimately taking about greedy white people.

You hit the nail on the head with that statement.
The profit over people model has proven to fail time and time again.

We paying higher prices now.

And that’s partly due to these corporations trying to make up for the revenue lost back in 2020/2021 because of the pandemic.

Corporations began shutting down US manufacturing back in the 1990s to relocations outside the US because of cheaper labor and less environmental regulations.

The cost of basic goods have been on a steady increase since the early 90s since they moved operations out of the US.

Prior to the pandemic, folks were screaming about raising the federal minimum wage from $7/hr to $15/hr. The counter argument was “If you raise it to $15/hr, you willing to pay higher prices for a Big Mac?”.

Corporations are paying higher wage today. A large majority of fast food restaurants are paying well over $15/hr. I have seen some FF restaurants paying more than $20/hr. They ain’t increase the wage cuz it’s the right thing to do….they increase it cuz folks have said “Fuck Them Jobs!” and they are desperate for workers.

The cost of Fast Food has raised, not due to cover the cost of higher wages, but to pass on the cost of transportation costs (Diesel Fuel) to get the food from point A to point B toward the customer. And that’s cuz of corporate greed from Big Oil.

I've noticed that last few times that I've in there that they seemed to have more registers open. Never thought about this.

I think companies are just taking advantage of the situation now, and supply chain shortage is just code for raising prices for the fuck of it. Damn near every business reporting record profits and selling less shit

cant cut tens of thousands of your railroad workers..............then complain about not having enough railroad workers the next day.
the railroad companies shot themselves in the foot on this one.
same thing the airlines did

forced retirement for pilots during covid.... then only to not have enough now and cancel 1000's of flights now that people are flying again

We been out of contract for about 3 years. If a strike comes September 15. It's a wrap.

Employees Walk Out As Job Unhappiness Soar

Workers from California to New York are demanding higher wages and better working conditions. Employees from coffee shops to hospitals have been staging walkouts and going on strike.

It all comes amid a new Gallup poll that found half of workers are stressed, and one in five battles anger or sadness during the day.

More than 150 Amazon workers walked off the job at an air freight facility in San Bernardino, California, on Monday, calling for a $5 raise and safer working conditions.
