AG then to tried to place his own handpicked attorney into the position, but failed. Audrey Strauss then became the
acting US attorney and signed off on arresting Maxwell. So why would Barr relent in this case? Because the firing of
Jeff Berman, the said US attorney, did not go as easily as had been hoped. Berman forced Barr to get Trump to fire
Berman publicly. This is important because Berman knew that the Democrats in the House would summon him to
testify, and he could then tell everything. He also wanted Trump's foot and palm prints on the thing, so that if the
shit rained down, Trump could not say it was all Barr's doing and he had nothing to do with it. Barr was then left with
a dilemma. To continue to try and restrain the USDNY from arresting Maxwell, would leave him with questions to
answer once Berman testified. Barr, as you know, has agreed to testify before Congress, at the end of this month.
This only happened after the US Congress threatened to strip $50million from the budget of his office. So when
acting attorney for the SDNY, Audrey Strauss, decided to arrest Maxwel, there was nothing Barr could do to stop
