Nikita Pearl played Gloria in the film - also starring Lupita Nyong'o - about a chess prodigy from a Ugandan slum. She died at hospital in Naalya, Kampala, last night, Ugandan media reports.

Gayaza High School, where Nikita Pearl was a student prior to her death, shared a tribute to Twitter.

They wrote: 'Fare thee well Nikita Pearl Waligwa.

'You were a darling to many and we have lost you to brain tumor at such a tender age. Nikita was in S.3. Rest in Perfect Peace dear.'

Wow my daughter was just watching This movie earlier this week. She was telling me what it was about. Didnt pay attention because I don’t have time to sit down and watch with her. RIP to the young queen.
