Disney CEO Confirms Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige Is Taking Over the X-Men Franchise

With the Disney and 21st Century Fox deal on its way to becoming reality, Disney CEO Bob Iger cleared up a thing or two about the plan moving forward, and it definitely featuresKevin Feigein a leadership position.

Igerspoke to THRabout a variety of topics related to Disney, and that includes the plan going forward for the 20th Century Fox Marvel properties. Those properties include X-Men and Fantastic Four, and at one point Iger was asked if Marvel would absorb the X-Men franchise and if Feige would be overseeing it.

"I think it only makes sense," Iger said. "I want to be careful here because of what's been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn't be two Marvels."

That was followed up with a proposition of "so Deadpool could become an Avenger?"

"Kevin's got a lot of ideas," Iger said. "I'm not suggesting that's one of them. But who knows?"

Iger also addressed how they plan to integrate all the new talent coming over from 20th Century Fox:

"Very good question. We’re going to take the best people from both companies and that's who's gonna basically be on the playing field for us. Meaning, talent will prevail. Fox Searchlight is a great example. You look at FX, NatGeo. Yeah, you’re buying libraries and brands, but you're also buying the people. I'm not gonna talk about specific people right now except to say that I've met with virtually the entire senior management team at Fox and I'm not only fully engaged with them on what the possibilities for them might be but I'm excited about the prospects."

Odds are we won't actually see most of these changes until well into 2019 and beyond, as the deal isn't even expected to finalize for a while. Still, we can't help but dream of a scene where the X-Men meet the Avengers, and we're sure other fans feel the same way.

While the X-Men won't be a part of it, Marvel's heroes will soon be seen inAvengers 4.

Bob Iger Thinks Marvel Movies Should Be 'One Entity'

Disney's CEO wants all of their Marvel properties to exist together. Marvel Studios has built their cinematic empire on the backs of "B-list" characters. The likes of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor weren't the household names they are now over a decade ago, while the Guardians of the Galaxy were about as unknown as they come. After years of turning lesser known characters into bankable IPs, Marvel Studios will soon receive an embarrassment of riches thanks to the in-the-works Disney/Fox merger. When the deal is complete, Disney will regain control of the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Since the deal has not yet been completed, there's been no sign as to how Marvel plans to integrate these massive characters into the MCU. Some have even wondered if Marvel Studios should bring them all together or just let the mutants continue to operate on their own. Marvel Studios will indeed absorb the X-Men and Fantastic Four and Disney's CEO believes that's for the best.

THR spoke to Disney CEO Bob Iger and asked him about their plans for Marvel characters Fox has ownership of. He can't get into specifics as the deal is not yet complete and plans for these characters haven't been discussed, but he believes the best way for these characters to operate is, just like in the comics, together.

I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what's been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn't be two Marvels.

Part of this decision will come out of the necessity as Disney will reportedly downsize Fox and take back control of the X-Men and Fantastic Four. However, it also just makes sense to let all of these characters exist in the same world, and thus under the vision of Kevin Feige. Iger was even asked about Feige's unofficial plans and if Deadpool being an Avenger was among them, to which he said, "Kevin's got a lot of ideas. I'm not suggesting that's one of them. But who knows?"

Even though Feige may have ideas about the future, he isn't too concerned with them right now - or so he says. According to the Marvel Studios president, he is waiting for the phone call that says he can actually use these characters before he spends too much time figuring out how he'll bring them in. He does still have Avengers 4 to finish up and square away Phase 4, so it will be interesting to see how quickly Feige acts once that call is made. If all Marvel characters do become one entity, they will all be in Feige's hands. Considering the confidence Iger has that this is how Marvel's future will be, it looks to be a matter of when and how Marvel introduces these characters in the MCU and not if.

They have to get all these characters on screen together.

I could hold out for another year or two to get the Famtastic Four and Xmen together with the Avengers for a all out battle against Thanos.

Thing is they will IMO build up the FF and X-men franchises similar to the way they did with avengers.
They have to. That's what made Infinity War so great. There was ten years worth of world building.

I think what happens after Avengers 4 (Infinity War 2) will probably give Marvel a chance to do their (new) world building efforts with FF and X-Men quicker than ten years though.

Hoping the reset just makes mutants an already established phenomenon.

Man I'm hyped.

Hoping they cast the parts correctly. Disney/Marvel hasn't let us down yet.

I said this very thing months ago but dudes here told me I was jumping to conclusions... :shades:

1 thing I can guarantee though.

At captain America s funeral Tony Starks gives a speech about how captain sacrifice his life for humanity blah blah...at the end a man in a wheelchair appears and says he mite be able to help and you see 5 shadow figures in the background aka the x-men

So we're prolly looking at 5 yrs of intro and build-up before a combined FF-avengers -X-men movie.

FF should be introduced in the same fashion as Spider-Man. No origin needed. Intro them in the next BP via the new science center Shuri is running. Then give them a solo movie after that. Doom must be involved

FF 4 already on the way....

Iron Fist Season 2....

The Easter egg was pointed out was in episode 6, which is titled “The Dragon Dies at Dawn”. There’s a sequence in the series that is set in a vacant building that is under construction. This is where Danny Rand gets his ass handed to him by Davos. That doesn’t matter, though.

It’s the address of the building that is interesting. The address mentioned in the episode is “42 Baxter”, which is in reference to the same Baxter Building in Marvel Comics. This is where Fantastic Four’s base of operations is located. The address of the building in the comics is 42nd and Madison, but by adding the name “Baxter” in there, they make it very clear that they are referencing the building from Fantastic Four. I don’t believe that’s a coincidence.

The question is… why? I’d like to think that they are starting to plant the seeds for a future Fantastic Four movie or TV series. We know that one day we’ll see the Fantastic Four return thanks to the Disney and Fox merger, and the fact that the building is under construction is a great and fun way to plant that first seed for what is to come.

At least the xmen movies won't be shitty now.
And they can finally do Apocalypse the right way.
