Did Tiger Woods REALLY say this?

The interview was largely a series of profane quips by Tiger, such as “What I can’t figure out is why so many good-looking women hang around baseball and basketball. Is it because, you know, people always say that, like, black guys have big dicks?”

At another moment, during a photo shoot where four women attended to his every need and flirted with him as he flirted back, he told a joke: He rubbed the tips of his shoes together and then asked the women, “What’s this?” They were stumped. “It’s a black guy taking off his condom.”

Those look like quotes from the GQ story about him some 10 years back. Folks who were aware of the story were stunned by his bad taste in racial humor, but still gave him a pass. Most people were never aware of it.

If those are fresh quotes, then it's surprising he didn't mature.

Yes, it was a recorded interview from 10 years ago. I remember vaguely someone saying he was making "racial jokes", but I never heard the actual jokes.

Vanity Fair brought it up in their recent February 2009 issue.

If he made jokes like that, I really don't think he sees himself as black at all, not even 1/4 or whatever he claims his blackness to be.

Well, I'm sure he's feeling more "black" now though. Especially after that Vanity Fair February 2009 cover.

Why would he feel more black? Because the media loves a story? I don't get what you are saying. You can't possibly mean because the media saw blood on the most famous athlete in the world and went after it like the sharks they are they did so because he is 1/4 black.

Clinton got impeached behind pussy. Edwards big time political career is over because of pussy. They are both white guys. Come on now.

Have you seen the Vanity Fair cover yet? Your thoughts?

Ok, I just took a look. I don't see a problem with it. If he were smart like Derek Jeter or Lebron or George Clooney and never got married would all this even be a story?

Hell no, he brought it on himself.

I don't know why people love this self-defeating "nigga wake up call" bullshit but this board has latched onto it like a leech at a Red Cross blood drive. I guess it makes them feel better about their own failures to attack any successful black person having even a moment of distress like "Yeah, motherfucker, it can happen to you too!!!"

Yes, it was a recorded interview from 10 years ago. I remember vaguely someone saying he was making "racial jokes", but I never heard the actual jokes.

Sportswriter Charlie Pierce wrote the story for GQ (around '97 or '98, before Woods had even won a Major). He followed Woods around for a few weeks and quoted his jokes in the article. I think the article was called "Golf's New Messiah" or something. Those jokes so contradicted Woods' image that people resisted taking them seriously. Even the author was stunned when Woods started cracking these types of jokes at really inappropriate times in public. That stuff gave us a clue as to his character, but no one paid much attention.

If he made jokes like that, I really don't think he sees himself as black at all, not even 1/4 or whatever he claims his blackness to be.

Black or white, those jokes are immature and extremely stupid things to say in front of a writer. Dude obviously was clueless about the tasteless nature of the humor and also must have felt bulletproof.

Well, I'm sure he's feeling more "black" now though. Especially after that Vanity Fair February 2009 cover.

He's lucky he got a cover story at all, and the photo is flattering.

You are a known homo STFU

No one was caring about what cuz was doing 3 months ago.

Why should we give a fuck now.
It's not really important but I would have thought less of Woods reading this in the past just as I think less of him now... I think the dude has mental issues.

Looking like a prisoner working out is flattering? Not. This pic would be "flattering" for 50 Cent, but not Tiger Woods. Get serious.

But isn't it interesting they are using it now for their February 2010 cover. :hmm:

Well, they've gotta use something. Why not the best??? I don't know the history of this article, or how long it's been in the works. I'm guessing it was being prepared long before this scandal broke, and was likely supposed to be a neutral profile. All the shit that went down just gave them a good reason to run the piece now. Might've been sitting on the shelf for months.

What I find funny is...

#1) Does Woods know the racial composition of baseball?

2) He sounds envious... Like he identifies so much with white golfers that he's actually jealous of those black basketball and baseball players who get more attention than boring sexless golfers.

I bet you anything they wouldn't have used this picture if this scandal hadn't broke. That picture speaks volumes.

Um... Did he pose for it? Or was he kidnapped John McCain style and forced to workout shirtless as they photographed him for hours?

That picture speaks volumes.

That's what magazine "covers" and great photography are supposed to do.

The beauty of the photo is that you would've had an entirely different reaction to (and interpretation of) it if the recent events hadn't taken place.

LOL. Of course he posed for it, but this pic was taken THREE YEARS AGO. How ironic they finally use it now, after all this shit has broke.

It's not ironic, it is to be expected. It's called capitalizing. Exploitation.

But... You commented on the quality/content of the picture, calling it unflattering-- How can it be unflattering when he willingly posed for it and presumably approved of the original idea?

You may not like the idea but if Kristie Allie poses for Playboy tomorrow, I'm not going to call the pictures unflattering just because she's a whale. (Just as if it were your girl Mariah Carey. ;)) That's just the nature of the pictures and it's her decision.

Lola, calm down.

Take deep breaths and think.

I want you to think of a color............................. No it is not black. No it is not white. You know what it should be????????????????????????

GREEN

This is about money. Anybody with anything on the most famous athlete in the world is trying to get PAID. From his wife, to the hos, to the rags, to the people on CNN who need ratings to keep that GREEN in the bank.

He doesn't sound like he's denying his blackness, he just seems fuckin stupid. Like maybe his gift isn't dealing with people. That mentally he may not be that mature and spent too much time concentrating on golf while young.

He's lucky he got a cover story at all, and the photo is flattering.

A black man worth a billion in a skully and his shirt off :hmm:

And you're gay :hmm:

Sorry, there is nothing "great" about that cover. He looks like a convict, some lawless thug.

You think that's what they were going for when he willingly posed years ago (or rather just an athletic, focused, muscle guy look)?? Or is that just YOUR current interpretation based on some sort of misplaced sympathy for him??

Either way, that's what makes it great. The photo has stayed the same, but people's IMPRESSIONS of it (and the subject) have changed.
