Did George Benson Rip Off This Song? It's Very Close.....

by the way Luther Vandross said George's Give me the Night inspired him to make Never too Much,
right down to the guitar lick, as Luther was trying to imitate GB's 'pop-pop' guitar lick.
and you all know never too much was Luther's breakout track.

Wow. I never knew that.
Though it sounds nothing like Benson's song, it shows that great artists pull inspiration from other places and make totally different masterpieces sometimes.
Even though Luther "produced" it, it has Nat Adderly Jr's sound all over it.
The production period between him in the group Change and solo era during Never Too Much was my favorite. Shit sounded so good on the radio.
Memories.

Funny thing is, hardcore GB fans consider this his sellout song. Kinda like REM fans think "Losing My Religion" is their sellout song.
"You hear that new George Benson joint?! Nigga out here roller skating backwards and shit."

*He had Ola Ray in the video too.*

Uh, sometimes, if a lesser known artist has a song with a great vibe, producers will ask to buy it or repurpose it, because it could be a hit for a well known artist.

Yes, you're right... a mutual agreement could have been made beforehand by both sides.

Yeah, but check this out:
Ghostbusters brand was getting so big that the lawyers put together a big "hush money" package for Huey Lewis. The deal was; take the money, don't ever speak on it.
But years later, he violated the judge's gag order and told the story on VH1 Behind the Music and had to pay the money back.

Besides, Huey Lewis stole the fucking song himself....
