Are currently or plan to be you completely off SOCIAL MEDIA?

just asking because I am noticing the negatives greatly outweigh the benefits for many.

We are seeing the worst come out of people we would normally walk past in the street, be our neighbors, our co-workers, our doctors, lawyers, mechanics and out kids teachers...

being exposed as idiots, racists or freaks...

Has the recent events (including Identity Theft) turned you off from participating in social media on any level?

i used to be addicted to instagram, but the shit was too superficial. i have a twitter account too, but never get on because i am not interested in other's random thoughts. used to be on facebook, but that shit was too intrusive, and i didnt like the way it links you up with people from your past.
i think social media has its benefits, but for the most part, i can, and do live without it. i use it for marketing, thats about it.
i do like tumblr tho. alot of nice pics on there.

Because there are hardly any celebrities on it, and it doesn't get much advertising, like the others. It's more for news. I prefer it over all the others. And it caters to your specific interest.

I can't give up twitter. I'm so uninformed with out it. It is one of the best formats to aggregate news and keep informed about not only what is going on in the world but peoples attitudes and reactions to it. I can engage as little or as much as I want. I follow news media, cooking and hair blogs that I like. Deal sites. I have political discussions that I wouldn't have elsewhere. There are some really smart and witty people online that I wouldn't have come across without twitter. I've won a roku player and two clarisonic's by just tweeting and interacting. I can do with out facebook, I'm really only on there as a way of keeping up with out of state family and some groups that I like. I have instagram, and I follow a few people, but I've never used it to post content. I don't have snap chat, I don't even think my phone supports it. Other than facebook and some really old twitter posts, I don't have my picture (or employment information) anywhere.

I'm only on instagram, cause I love looking at the pics for motivation, a lot of good stuff on there. I follow a lot of the fashion stuff, and motivational quotes and business stuff on there. An of course some nice ass to help balance out my day

I have several facebook accounts,but only go on one of them,but I don't go on there like I used to....I wish facebook was the way it was in 2005.

I'm on facebook only to network with artists,programmers and long distance relative, that's about it

The key to social media contests is just tracking down all your favorite websites, blogs, magazines, newspapers, promotional companies, movie studios, etc. Following them on Twitter, FB, Instagram, etc. Especially for all the BGOL fam' in the States as you have 10x the population. Most of the stuff here is just Toronto & Vancouver-based. Then the other stuff is for some of the other provinces.

Outside of thay, I don't participate outside of using MySpace for a hot minute... Blackplanet page is probably still alive though.

message boards are different

there people here who have been genuine FRIENDS for years off bgol and have not actually met..

and relationships have been formed and MOST without anyone else on bgol even knowing...

many business deals mentor-ships etc too...

and all with almost complete privacy between the members involved

and I don't think that is really possible outside catfishing on the other social media formats.

and only if you piss off the wolves will you POTENTIALLY get exposed and EVEN with that?

It is usually BECAUSE of social media like Facebook that the ocking has reached the level of complete devastation it has.
