Jon Jones will reportedly have to wait for his rematch with Daniel Cormier.

The UFC light heavyweight champion has withdrawn from his title fight against Jones at UFC 197 due to injury, sources told BJPenn.com.

The pair were set to headline the event on April 23 in Las Vegas, Nev.

It's currently unclear exactly what injury Cormier suffered, but he was reportedly seen struggling to walk due to an injured leg at a wrestling tournament.

The UFC has yet to confirm whether Jones will be given another opponent at UFC 197, or if the fight will be pushed back to later date, with UFC 200 appearing to be a natural fit.

Jon Jones is gonna have a field day calling Cormier a pussy......

I just want to know how does mcgregor get an instant rematch and Aldo doesnt...

And mcgregor gets to decide what weight they fight at as if Diaz ain't the champ.....

The crazy shit is Diaz beat him on such a short notice that's impressive.

Shit. If that fool agrees to fight at 170 again, he deserves an INSTANT rematch. In the fight game, cats bitching about fewer than 10 pounds. He jumped all the way to 170. I say encourage that shit. I don't like him, but I respect his heart. I think he is batshit for taking the fight. He already proved he will do what most won't.

Never a dull moment in MMA, Roc. Shit's crazy sometimes ...

- Rousey gets owned & highlight-reel KO'd in 6 minutes
- PVZ gets bloodied & styled on for 20+ minutes by Namajunas
- McGregor gets subbed in less than 2 rds by Diaz
- Just under 3 months prior he KO'd Aldo in 13 seconds
- GSP has been away from the sport for 2.5 years, but rumors are he could return later this year
- DJ has been owning opponents for years @ 125lbs
- Cruz has 4 years of injuries & recovery ... 1 fight with Mizugaki ... and returns to reclaim his 135lb strap after 25 mins with Dillashaw
- The same Dillashaw that styled on Barao twice previously
- Jones' legal issues in recent years / the delay of the first fight with Cormier / Jones-Cormier I going 25 mins in Jan. 2015
- The resurgence of Werdum, Rothwell, and Miocic @ HW in recent years
- All the great fights Lawler's been involved in @ 170lbs since returning to the UFC

dammit I was hoping this was an april fools joke:smh:

It seems like every other UFC has someone backing out of the main event.

Yeah - the number of card changes is hard to keep up with. I'm always amazed when athletes can get through their careers with minimal damage given all the training involved, and damage taken both pre- and during fights. Especially when some camps can last 2 - 3+ months, and you're taking on everything (wrestling, grappling, BJJ, boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, judo, and more) on top of strength training, cardio, weight cutting and more. A guy like Donald Cerrone is something. Check out his resume over the years. Easily one of the most active fighters.

remember what Dana White said when Benson Henderson left?

"“The truth is we made him an offer that would have paid him substantially more – like not even in the same ballpark – than he’s getting now if he were to become world champion again, but he chose their deal, which offered more up front,” White said. “He’s a former world champion who’s ranked No. 15 now. We’re looking for top-5 guys, guys that are going from 15 to 1, not the other way around."

:hmm:

Ovince Saint Preux to replace Daniel Cormier in UFC 197 fight against Jon Jones

dude seems a rather new blood to be receiving a PPV fight

also Cormier got STRIPPED of the belt. Man the UFC ain't no fucking joke WHOA. Cormier worked all those years to be champion and lost it BOOM just like that

Jon Jones will still compete at UFC 197 this month, as the former light heavyweight champion is now scheduled to fight Ovince Saint Preux for the UFC's interim title.

UFC president Dana White announced the matchup on SportsCenter. Jones, 28, was originally scheduled to fight defending champion Daniel Cormier on April 23 at MGM Grand Garden Arena, but Cormier recently withdrew because of a lower leg injury.

Ovince Saint Preux (black trunks) will fight Jon Jones at UFC 197, replacing the injured Daniel Cormier. Rod Mar for ESPN
Jones (21-1) hasn't fought since he defeated Cormier via unanimous decision at UFC 182 in January 2015. The victory marked Jones' eighth consecutive title defense, a record for the 205-pound division.

He was scheduled to defend the title against Anthony Johnson in May but was arrested one month before the fight on a felony hit-and-run charge in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The UFC stripped Jones of the title shortly after his arrest. Jones eventually entered a plea agreement on the case and was sentenced to 18 months supervised probation.

Once Cormier withdrew from the event, the UFC initially turned to Johnson (21-1) as a replacement, but Johnson was unable to accept due to a recent medical procedure.

"Obviously, the No. 1 choice would be Anthony Johnson, who is the No. 2-ranked guy in the world and a fight that everybody wants to see," White said. "But Anthony Johnson just had surgery on his mouth and can't even put a mouthpiece in for at least three weeks."

That opened the door for Saint Preux (19-7), who is 7-2 in the UFC. A former college football player at Tennessee, Saint Preux, 32, is coming off a decision win over Rafael Cavalcante in February. He trains out of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Although Saint Preux doesn't carry the same history with Jones as Cormier, he is the UFC's sixth-ranked fighter in the weight class.

"The one thing we've learned in the 16 years in this business is you never know what's going to happen," White said. "Anything is possible when two guys get in there. Jon Jones and OSP have never faced off before. No. 1 versus No. 6. Two big, strong, athletic, explosive guys. Anything is possible."

Cormier (17-1) won the official title by submitting Johnson at UFC 187. He has recorded one successful defense, a split decision against Alexander Gustafsson in October.

In a statement to ESPN, Cormier said his recovery time is estimated at four to six weeks.

"The decision not to fight on April 23 was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make," Cormier said. "I've been scheduled to fight 18 times, and I have made that walk every time. I want to apologize to Jon Jones, Lorenzo Fertitta, Dana White and all of the UFC fans for not being able to defend my title.

"The recovery should not take very long, and I can't wait to compete and defend my title again. For all the fans, thanks for your support. I appreciate each and every one of you."

Unfortunately for Cormier, his inability to fight Jones will lead to him losing his belt. White explained on SportsCenter the decision to make Jones-Saint Preux an interim title fight.

"Thing is, Jon has never lost his title in the Octagon," White said. "He was stripped of his title because of problems outside. We think it's the right thing to do. It's not his fault that Cormier is injured so. He will fight for the interim light heavyweight title. When Cormier comes back, they'll decide who the real champ is."

Ovince saint Preux against Jones? I don't think Preux is gonna beat him. I don't know what this is with Cormier pulling out at the last minute but I wonder if he's scared to lose again? All that talk but yet scared to fight. If you can't back up what you say then shut the fuck up.

The UFC got more drama than the WWE. They laughed at V McMahon for calling his gig "sports entertainment"....whose laughing now:lol2:

I don't really watch MMA too much but the shit Dama seems to pull on seemingly solid/hard working/respectable fighter's in order to cater to certain chosen stars is bullshit IMO.

Holm destroys and exposes Rousey, loses the title in a good fight she was winning pretty clearly by all accounts, and yet Dana refuses to let her have a rematch just so he can hand the title to Rousey by having her face someone shes dominated three times:smh::confused:

And now Cormier gets stripped because of an injury he suffered while preparing for this fight so that he can give Jones who's had problems with coke, drunk driving and crashing, hit and run a pregnant woman, etc. a chance to get a belt back that you stripped from him due to this behavior:confused::smh:

Please explain this BS justification for stripping Daniel Cormier of the LHW title because he injuried himself training. they did not strip Fabricio Werdum of his title when he couldnt fight with an injury a couple of months ago. there are a lot of positives having an organization where a head person can control who fights and make matches that the fans want to see unlike boxing where the rankings and division are secondary to which fighter wants to fight, ut today we see the downside of Dna White's one man show - HE IS JUST MAKING UP SHIT ON THE FLY.

Interim titles used to be for champs who took an excessively long time coming back from injuries and didn't fight for 12 to 18 months. Now he just awards them like they are participation trophies...You get a belt and you get a belt and oh here Billy you get a belt too. We want everyone to be happy and have high self esteem.

Jon Jones fucked up and was stripped of his title, he should not have it awarded back to him, like Muhammad Ali, he needs to earn it back in the ring -

If I was advising Daniel Cormer -I would tell him he should walk right over to Bellator and fuck the UFC.

What are you talking about? Cormier isn't being stripped of any title.

I am basing my statement based on the bold face quote from the article above -

Unfortunately for Cormier, his inability to fight Jones will lead to him losing his belt. White explained on SportsCenter the decision to make Jones-Saint Preux an interim title fight.

If this is not correct I stand corrected but even making the Jones Ovince St Preux fight an interim title fight is BS. It was BS when he did it with Conor McGregor - let the fighters win it in the ring.

Jones just got into trouble with the police again...drag racing and something else. I hope he hasn't been hanging out with Katt Williams
