PHILADELPHIA -- Bullets flew Saturday night in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia, hitting one man.

Investigators said two 17th District police officers pulled up on a shootout at 28th and Reed streets, where five men were shooting at each other.

Three men shot at the officers in the police car, which was hit once on the passenger-side door, detectives said.

The officers then returned fire, shooting off six shots into a hail of gunfire.

"I'm on my front porch fixing bikes. It’s like 15, 20 shots the first time. Then you heard it again – about 10 or 12 shots again. Like a semiautomatic something like that,” area resident Michael Edwards said.

Police said the officers hit one of the alleged shooters in the leg. Another was taken into custody and a third ran away.

The crime scene stretched several blocks as police looked for bullet casings from the gunfire.

Shooting In Northern Liberties

Philadelphia police are investigating another murder in the city that happened just after midnight in Northern Liberties.

Police said that started out as an argument turned into homicide when 23-year-old Rhashe Allen died after he was shot in the head.

The shooting took place near the intersection of 7th and Girard streets. The gunman got away.

It is the 350th homicide in the city this year

The way I see it, there are several issues. Seems as if the game started going down hill in 1986.

- Dealers, Hustlers or whatever you want to call them have no respect. I mean we hustled the same streets but we kept the area cool. We caused no trouble and to care of the block.

- Brothas are straight bitches!!! Always pulling a gun and shooting someone. To be honest, the minute you mention a gun you proved yourself to be a bitch. A real man knows how to use his hands. When the news reports all these shootings it's almost like they're stretching before exercise (the "real" stories). Alot of this shit doesn't even get covered. One of the two women found shot to death in the city's Grays Ferry section early yesterday was in the federal witness-protection program and had just returned to the city, a law enforcement source said last night.
The victim, identified by Philadelphia police as Chante Jackson, 23, had been in Philadelphia only about seven hours before she was slain about 2 a.m., the source said.

She had returned for a funeral, said the source, who added that Chante Jackson was not her real name.

The source also said she was to have been a witness in a state murder case.

"Her murder shows how serious the threats against her really were," the source said.

Jackson and Octavia Green, also 23, were found in the 1500 block of South Patton Street, near 32d and Tasker Streets, police said. The relationship between the women was not clear.

"One was found on the sidewalk, one in a vehicle," Homicide Sgt. Charles Coan said.

"Both were shot multiple times," he said. There were no suspects in the case last night.

A Philadelphia police spokeswoman said last night that she did not know if Jackson was in the witness-protection program, only that Jackson also had an address in Jacksonville, Fla.

Repairing the EL, The Condo's, the homes is south Philly, All of the colleges are pushing out through west Philly. Whenever they start changing infastructure the way they are, THERE ARE NO PLANS FOR US.

They want the city back. They don't want to keep paying $500 a month filling up those SUV's.

Trinidad. The murder toll continues to climb following the stabbing death of a Maloney man during the wee hours of yesterday morning.

The killing of Shawn Mahase has now pushed the murder figure to 29 for the year .

This figure has surpassed last year's January toll by one, and is nine shy of the January 2006 figure.

Around this same period (January 19) last year the figure stood at 11.

Mahase, 19, a watchman attached to the Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation was found with stab wounds about the body around 3 a.m. yesterday.

Detectives say they received a call informing them about a body being dumped in a drain near the vicinity of LP 72, which is near an agricultural development site in the Arima Old Road, Arouca.

Mahase, detectives say worked PH taxi part time in the Maloney district.

The car which he was operating was parked a few metres from his body.

Homicide detectives say they remain baffled as to the motive behind Mahase's death and have ruled out robbery since cash and other valuables were found on Mahase.

No public assistance and the breakdown of affirmative action programs makes the idea of becoming a prosperous individual by going through the normal channels a pipe dream. The school district is the worst for any big city in the nation and so these uneducated depressed brothers see drugs and violence as the only avenue to prosperity. It's a shame.
